July 30, 2017: What We Do

posted in: Cubs | 1

Excuse me, but I’m feeling pretty damn good about the Cubs these days.  They closed out another series win against the Brew Crew and extended their lead to 2.5 games in the division.  You really didn’t think Milwaukee would be there all year, did you?

13-3 since the break ain’t too shabby.  From 5.5 games back to 2.5 games up in the blink of an eye.  It’s what we do…well, at least the post-all star game Cubbies.

Ok, so the Dodgers are still the team to beat, right?  I’ve been saying that, but just because…just because they went like 30-5 in one stretch…just because they have Kershaw….just because they have the best record in the league.  Impressive regular season thus far; we know the post season is a whole different ball game.

We’ve known that historically because of our failures. The Cubs would kick ass during the season, and flop come October.  But most recent history tells us that the Cubs now know a little somethin somethin about winning in the postseason.  That’s more than can be said for the Dodgers…and the Nationals for that matter.  For once, the Cubs hold the upper hand in that category; defending champs demand respect.

So, maybe the Dodgers aren’t the team to beat?  We can keep saying that though.   We can keep letting the media hype them up, compare them to the Warriors, or whatever.  That story is still to be written.  Will we follow that same script?

We’ve started to  since the all star break.  Winning a lot that is, but more specifically, storming back after going down.  First game to the Cards, loss…then won the series.  Same for the Sox and now the Brewers.  Same for the Dodgers and Indians in last year’s postseason.  The Dodgers may have some magic this year, but don’t think we’ve lost ours.  We may soon forget all about that snooze fest of a first half.

The Cubs are back.  We can say it now comfortably.  And as Jake said, don’t think we’ll be looking up in the division any longer.  Yeah, Arizona and then Washington will present some challenges at Wrigley this week, but when you’re as hot as the Cubs, you want to play these teams…now.  You want to play anybody.  We shouldn’t worry about any team; they should worry about us.

And the AL?  Astros, Indians, Yankees… sorry, but not one of them puts the fear of God in me.  The NL definitely seems like the more loaded side this year, regardless of the history.  I’d take the Dodgers and Nats over any of them in the World Series.  And I’d take the Cubs over everybody.

The 16 game stretch after the all star break does that for me, plus the division lead, plus our current record being our best of the year.  Oh yeah, and the fact that we are the reigning champions.  We’ve done it and we can do it again.  How’d that trade deadline go down?  Let’s go there next.

13-3 since the break with a 2.5 game lead over the brewcrew. Yep, things are feeling pretty damn good with the Cubs right now. Another series Win after dropping the first in Wrigley north. 2 months left as we head into August. Time to put some distance between the Cubs and 2nd in the nl central…leave no doubt and prep for the playoffs. Just Win series now. nats and lala loading up, too. Who we afraid of? Anybody? Damn straight…NOBODY! The Cubs are the reigning, defending, undisputed, World Series Champions! Other teams best be afraid. But you know what? They probably think last year was a fluke and back to the normal loveable losers this year. That’s good for the Cubs. Confidence is running high right now. Don’t let up. 13-3 is not going to close the deal. Winning series the rest of the way out will. Do that Cubbies and a 3rd straight playoff birth will be yours! GO CUBS GO!!!
