July 30, 2015: Rewind

Time to review the past couple days as we catch up on the good old blog.  I like to banter back and forth about Cubs Sox.  I know all the lines Sox fans will say, and I have plenty of ammunition to fire back.  It’s all good as long as it doesn’t get stupid.

Going to some Cubs Sox games, I’ve seen it get stupid.  You know when you have a really ignorant or drunk or both fan when a woman starts yelling obscenities at me… because I had my Cubs hat on in the Cell.  I’d wear my Cubs hat anywhere, especially in the Cell, but I don’t any longer.  I don’t go to Cubs Sox games any more, and if I go to a Sox game, I’ll always reach for my Bears, Bulls, or Hawks hat.  Still representing Chicago, but avoiding the idiot fans, especially when I’m with my family.  Anyways, how have they been doing?

The Sox 7 game winning streak that nobody knew about came crashing to an end.  Chris Sale got knocked around Fenway, as the Red Sox barely avoided the dreaded 4 game sweep.  It was still a nice run.  On Friday night at the cell, it was Rodon’s turn to throw batting practice as the Yankees crushed the Sox.  It’s pretty sad (and funny) when the highlight of your night is Adam LaRoche taking the mound and striking somebody out.  Poor Brendan Ryan…  getting struck out by a position player.  That makes me think I still have a chance to pitch in the majors…  The Sox 7 game streak was followed by 2 beat downs.  Back to normal?  Still, 7 out of 9 from here on out gets them in the playoffs.  Unlikely, yes, but that is true.

The Cubs seemed to have turned the corner.  I didn’t talk about the series clincher against the Rockies where Lester struck out 14, but that was nice to see.  The series with the Brewers in Wrigley Field North started on Thursday night.  It was a sleeper for the first 23 outs.  Here we go again.  The offense was sputtering as the Cubs were getting shutout.  Tough luck loser looked to be Jake Arrieta only allowing 2 runs.  Then it happened.  With 2 outs and 2 on in the 8th, Anthony Rizzo stepped to the plate.  He was facing off against lefty reliever Will Smith… definitely not the fresh prince of Bel Air.  Rizzo turned on one and launched it into the 2nd deck.  Cubs win.  Will Smith did win too, against whatever the heck he beat up in the dugout after allowing the game winner.

On Friday, the Cubs won again.  That makes 3 in a row.  That makes 3 games in a row where Rizzo has went deep.  He seems to be getting his groove back, and no, not like Stella.  With the first 2 games in hand, why not go for the 4 game sweep.  Let’s get our own 7 game or more winning streak.  It’s the perfect time to get hot… well, 2nd perfect time.  But with the Pirates and Giants, the two teams in the wild card spots currently on the schedule for next week, it’s time to make our move.

OK, we did a little rewind and caught up on the action.  Next, let’s discuss the trading deadline…
