July 28, 2016: Striking Back

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 1

Now when I fell behind earlier this week, you thought it was because the Sox beat the Cubs 2 games.  This time when I fell behind, you couldn’t say that…

Work, work, and more work.  I know there are days when you hate your job too.  Well, this has been that week for me.  You don’t think just because I wasn’t writing my blog, I wasn’t keeping up with every minute of the 2 Cubs Sox games in Wrigley do you?  You know I have a big smile on my face now.  After losing the first two games, it was the Cubs turn to strike back.

Speaking of that work thing, it caused me to miss Wednesday night’s entire game… yeah, I know…. sucks.  I was checking in, and saw the game was 0-0 in the 3rd before I had to go in my meeting.  I told my wife… don’t text me for anything bad… only good.  I walked out of that meeting with 35 text messages.  Between her and my brother, my phone was lit up.  As I scrolled through each of the messages, my smile got wider and wider.  We got that ass.

An extra bonus came when she told me she recorded it.  I thought I would watch it when I got home that night, but at 3am, I just flipped on MLB network to get the short version… the next morning, a mere 4 hours later, I was woken up by my son banging on my head.  I know I don’t get enough sleep, but I usually get more than 4 hours…  It was breakfast time, and time to watch the game.

A double extra bonus came in when she recorded the Sox broadcast.  I couldn’t listen to that game in game out… Hawk is one annoying ass broadcaster, but… because the Cubs won, I couldn’t wait to hear his call.  I wasn’t disappointed.

He was bitching about strike calls as he usually does… the best was ball 3 to Heyward before walking him in front of Baez.  He said, Hammel was getting that call all night, even though it was clearly outside the strike box… hahaha.  Then after ball 4, it was Baez’ turn… and Cooper walked out to the mound for a conference.  Not sure what he told him, but I’m not mad at you Coop.  A 3-2 ball was launched into the night sky, and the Cubs took a 3-1 lead.  Awesome.

Of course I had watched Bryant’s home run in the 6th, and didn’t realize until then, that it was the Cubs first hit.  Next was the bottom of the 8th, when the Cubs blew it wide open on Addy’s grand salami.  Only one more half inning to watch… and that was the Cuban Missile’s debut.  He mowed them down, and the Cubs won 8-1.  Take that Sox fans!

One more Hawkism… as the Cubs closed it out, he immediately starting talking how great a performance the Sox starter had… even though he gave up 3 runs, lost, and got sent back to the minors the next day.  Got to love him… poor Stoney… got to put up with that crazy bastard.  Man it felt good to get that win…

It felt extra good because it was Sale on the mound on Thursday.  If felt double extra good because I would be in attendance for this one… and didn’t have to worry about any Sox fans with brooms… unless I saw them on the side of the road on the way to the park with orange uniforms on… haha.  The last game of the Cross town series was next… and I would be there.  Oh yeah!

Great game thru 7. Then the Cubs finally woke up and put the hurt on the sox. For the 3rd straight game, an average sox pitcher throws like an all star, and even hit a home run! It was just a matter of time before the Cubs bats woke up and just in time. Cubs still have hope to even the season series…lets do it!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
