Made it out to Wrigley for the second time this year on Tuesday night. Going to the game with a three year old means you won’t be in one place long, kind of like the starting pitcher for the Cubs this game.
As we got to our seats, somebody was in them. No big deal, they were just spreading out and immediately moved over when they saw us coming. I told my wife to just grab the seats next to ours to allow the guy to spread out again; we did and he did.
Then the Cubs pitching picked up where they left off the night before. 3 runs in the 9th on Monday; 4 runs in the 1st in this one. Dallas wasn’t going to last long tonight. Neither were we in these seats.
This time the usher came up to us and asked for our tickets. No big deal, we just moved over to our seats and the guy back to his. Now we were crunched. Could the 4 people who had the usher talk to us have sat in one of the empty rows in front of us? Could they have just asked us instead of getting the “muscle” involved? Whatever. This wasn’t going to last, not on this muggy night. After the Cubs chipped away with one in the bottom of the first, my son and I were walking.
Up, down, all around, and back to mom. Travis Wood relieved Beeler and held the Rockies mostly in check. As for us, we were up again, this time all of us. If it were up to me, I’d never leave my seat. My son at this age would never allow this. On our last walk in the 300 level at the Bulls playoff game against the Bucks, some guy offered us his tickets in the 100 level…jackpot! This time we ran into David Kaplan. Loved listening to him on the Game when it was around, and his sports talk live on Comcast is cool too. He was too. Of course I dropped this website to him…maybe I’ll add another reader to the millions of current faithful followers…ha!

So back to the game and this time we were sitting all the way in the back of the left field 200 level. Sitting in this area (We started in the 100 level) kind of made me queasy…sitting so close to Bartman territory. By the way, the Cubs weren’t making any progress, but at least we were comfortable. One more walk was in store, this time for ice cream. That didn’t last long, and then it was time to stretch. This was my favorite part of the game with my boy yelling one, two, three strikes you’re out and then saying ‘let’s get some runs’…I’ve trained him well.
As we were walking out in the bottom of the 7th, which I absolutely hate doing, Coghlan went deep and I thought…if I miss a comeback, I’m gonna be so pissed…. The next seat was behind the wheel of my car as Pat and Ron got us home…no such luck on a comeback through 8.
The final seat of the night in this game of musical chairs was our bed. Hoping to flip on Comcast and see the Cubs still batting in the 9th, it was that guy again, Kaplan with Hollandsworth doing the post game. Cubs lost again. I’m 0-2 this year, but I’ll still save the ticket for my son.
Wrigley was beautiful as always, but the play on the field by the home team wasn’t. Our no name pitcher got tagged, while we couldn’t get to theirs. I didn’t think the 4 in the first would hold up, but I was wrong. They only needed 3.
7-2 was the final as the Cubs remain in a rut. 5-7 since the break isn’t good and with 7 games next week against the two teams currently occupying the two wild card spots, we’re at a critical juncture. Let’s pull it together boys…the summer is just getting started. Let’s start that music up and switch places with the Pirates or Giants. Don’t stop the music now. Go Cubs Go!
