July 25, 2017: The Way It Should Be

Cubs win, Sox lose; that’s more like it.

The Cubs and us fans weren’t that interested in playing such a bad team yesterday…until the Sox won the game.  Now you have our attention. 7-2 is what happens when you have the Big Blue Machine’s attention.  The Sox were merely a bug on the windshield this afternoon in Wrigley.  It certainly had some interesting moments though.

Lackey hit 3 guys in a row and 4 total.  Of course Hawk Harrelson’s comments were all over twitter.  Of course I wasn’t listening to the Sox broadcast.  He wanted the Sox to retaliate. They did. He wanted Lackey to get a line drive back at him.  When is he retiring?  Got to love how he gets fired up.  He’s an idiot but he’s not that much different than you or me.  When I saw this, I kind of chuckled, especially getting out of the inning unscathed.  Then I remembered when Samardzjia hit Konerko in the face.  I bet Sox fans were worked up then.  Then Shark pitched for them.  You know fans didn’t forget the moment he plunked fan favorite Paulie in the face.

Then I saw that Bryant got tossed for the first time ever. I saw the pitch; it was clearly a ball. He knows the strike zone better than half these umps. Plus according to Joe, he didn’t say enough to get tossed.  But when you’re a long time ump, and you’re being told you were wrong by the young MVP, and you’re wrong…quick hook. That’s ok though. Watch for Kboom to launch a few the next couple games in whatever that field is called nowadays.

The Cubs put the Sox back in their place today.  Maybe the Sox will be in the Cubs league in a few years, but not now; they’re nowhere near it.  And it will take a lot of prospects to hit for them to be competitive.  And it will take a lot of money to help add key pieces.  And that’s helped when fans show up to the park.  And we know that’s not the Sox strong suit.  It is the Cubs though.

Wrigley is packed every day.  I hope the Sox enjoyed playing in front of a full house.  Don’t get too used to it.  The Cubs play these type of playoff atmosphere games all the time.  And oh yeah, they play actual playoff games too.  And they win them.  Last I checked, they’re still the defending World Series champs.  Still love saying that.

So enjoy your one win from yesterday.  Although I did predict a split, now I’m feeling the Sox won’t win another.  That’s how it should be.  Cubs beating the Sox makes me really happy.

So I look forward to two more of these before the Cubs go back to playing meaningful games vs major league teams and the Sox go back to waiting for more prospects to get called up.  I still can’t believe Lackey outpitched Rodon!!!  Haha!!!  I love it. Go Cubs!!!

gee, hard to tell reading the last 2 blogs where your allegiances lie. lackey outpitching rodon isn’t really that big a surprise. plus, easier to pitch when your team is giving you run support early. but, 2 games in, and it’s win-win for an actual ‘chicago’ fan…….

and another point……..what would your thoughts have been had rodon pluncked bryant, rizzo, and contreras all in a row? probably a bit different….

Can’t really compare those three with anybody on the Sox, but yeah, I would have expected the Cubs to plunk somebody back. It’s all good.

The Cubs bounce back to get the W. Willson continues his hot streak with a 3run bomb in the 1st, and the Cubs never looked back. Lackey was serviceable for 5, one fewer than the number of guys he hit, and got the W. KB was tossed on a horrible 3rd strike call. I think he was still fuming from fouling a ball off of his back knee a couple pitches earlier. He never argues, but he does know the zone, and that pitch was 6 inches inside. The ump felt like KB was showing him up and tossed him…quick hook for reigning NL MVP that never argues. Make a bad strike call and compound that by tossing him…not good. All good, though. Somehow the Cubs struck out 17 or 18 times and still scored 7 runs. Rodon pitched 4 innings with 10 or 11 k’s…wow. Baez 0-5 with 5 k’s and KB 0-3 with 3 k’s. This definitely was not an all around great game for the Cubs, but they played good enough to get the W. The bullpen pitched well after Lackey got tired of hitting guys. The sox were right to retaliate after 4 guys got beaned, none intentionally or that bad really, but still. They did it the right way, too…beaning Happ in the leg, not up high where you can hurt somebody. It added to the intensity of this Crosstown series. Another thing that will be added in the next 2 games is the number of fans at guaranteed rate field (have I said what a horrible name that is?). It will actually be filled. Enjoy playing before a full crowd sox but don’t get used to it. Back to normal after the next 2 games. Arrieta and Lester for the Cubs…take em both Cubbies!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
