Who would have thought? Who would have thought that on a team full of stars that a last minute resigning would have meant so much? Dexter Fowler has been one of the MVPs of this team.
He returned Friday night in Milwaukee from a hamstring injury that had kept him out almost a month. His first at bat back in the leadoff spot was a memorable one. He took that Jimmy Nelson pitch deep to straight away center. 1-0 Cubs. His second at bat was a good one too. Bases loaded and nobody out, Dexter lined a 2 run double down the left field line. 3-0 Cubs.
The Cubs went on to win this one, as the return of their leadoff hitter gave them a nice boost. He was involved with one of the first memorable moments for this team.
The way they brought him on the field after they finally resigned him, was pretty awesome. It seemed on all accounts that he was gone. Even just days before, it appeared he was heading to Baltimore; in fact it was even confirmed by a source. Yet, the Cubs swooped in at the last minute and brought back their guy for at least one more year. It was a very good move.

He seems to be our center fielder of the future. I’m ok with that. But for this year, Fowler is our man. One of the old men on the team is one of our most important
His return is also important in the field as Heyward returns to his normal spot in right. Heyward is solid in center; made a nice play the other day gunning a guy out at home. He’s better in right. Speaking about gunning a guy out at home, did you see that Contreras throw the other day? He didn’t throw him out, but he shouldn’t have. He threw a strike from the warning track to surprise the heck out of the guy who was just sliding for show. It’s nice to have guys that play multiple positions.
It’s also nice to have a bonafide lead off man. That’s what we were missing with Fowler. There’s nobody that quite fills that role like him. You go, we go as Joe says. Putting him back in that leadoff spot makes the lineup that much stronger. It’s nice to see him back in the mix.
So the Cubs starting off beating the hapless crew. Yes, we stil have to play these crappy teams, and beat them; they all count. Too bad we didn’t get to see Montgomery on Friday. We’d have to wait until Saturday night for that premier. Let’s just say it didn’t go quite as well as Dexter’s return. Saturday night baseball talk is next.

The Cubs missed fowler more than they knew, and I admit more than us fans thought they would. He is definitely an important piece in the Cubs lineup and am glad he is back…what a way to return huh? Almora did a fine job while he was gone and is the cf of the future, but fowler is the man for the job this year! Dex, you go, the Cubs go…GO CUBS GO!!!
