July 22, 2024: GM Update

It’s been a minute since we’ve had a GM update, and by GM, I mean General Manager, and by General Manager, I’m referring to myself, the general manager of 2 fantasy baseball teams currently. Long time no talk…

I’m coming off my best week of the year. With the extended week due to the All Star break, my team went over the 600 point mark! Yeah, I know, pretty good. I have the 4th most points in the league, which unfortunately, is only good for 7th place right now. The top 6 teams make the playoffs, so yeah, I’m in a fight for my playoff life. This is not a position I’m familiar with. I normally reside in the top 2-3 of the league, so… got some work to do. At least I’m not in last place, which is ironically taken up by my brother; that’s a shocker. He’s typically in the playoff picture too; he’s had some bad luck. Most recently, his bad luck included playing against my team last week; ouch! I would have crushed any team in the league; he would have beat 6 other teams in the league. Bad timing is a big part of bad luck in the fantasy head to head matchup world. I’m matched up against the top team in the league this week; this should be good. I need to keep winning to make sure I solidify a playoff spot… no damn way I’m missing the playoffs! Let’s go!

In the family league, I’m safely in 5th place out of 8 teams, which is good for the playoffs. Worst case, I drop to 6th place, which still punches my ticket. Last week, I also had one of my best weeks of the year in this league. I defeated my son, who currently sits in 2nd place; he wasn’t that mad. After all, we were the top 2 scoring teams in the league last week who just happened to be matched up against each other; it’s all good. I told him I’ll see him again in the playoffs; currently, we’d be on opposite sides of the bracket, which would mean our meeting would have to come in the finals… that’s cool. This league is definitely less difficult in comparison to my other league. With only 8 teams, there’s a whole roster of guys on the wire I could pick up to make another competitive team. In my money league, there’s hardly anybody of note out there as a free agent, although there are a few; I’ve made a couple pickups lately there to help my cause. Rece Hinds and Lawrence Butler ring a bell?

Going to try to zone in down the stretch and try to make a run for the title; can I pull it off in both leagues? That would be nice, but just give me the money. Now, back to scouring the free agent wire; a true GM never sleeps!!!
