Let’s check in with our beloved Bears for a quick second. Only 3 weeks until Bourbonnais!!!
I have been down there before to see Da Bears in training camp. It was very cool. I’m thinking about doing it again; I think my son would enjoy the heck out of that. We’d bring a football down there with us, and just throw it around… invite some more of the family with some of his cousins… yeah, that sounds like a plan. The last time it was me with a couple buddies. I remember the Score was down there broadcasting live; that would be cool to see again, and maybe this time, I’d try to jump on… and plug the website. You never know…
Another memory of the trip downstate, was seeing which Bears signed autographs. The one that stuck out that DID sign autographs was Tommie Harris. I wasn’t in line, but I watched from afar, and saw him sign for a big crowd. The one that stuck out that did NOT sign, was Peanut Tillman. He rolled by in a golf cart, hiding his face. Not my fondest memory of Peanut, who will be retiring a Bear any day now.
There were other good memories of him. In fact, he may be the best CB of all time for the Bears. I thought about that for a second… have to think about the 2 Super Bowl corners in LA Mike and Frazier. How about Donnell Woolford or Vestee Jackson… not better than Peanut. Maybe the guy who played across from him for many of his years in Nathan Vasher? He had a big season or two. I guess it has been pretty slim pickings at that position over the years, although Tillman was no slouch.
The famous punch of the ball led to many fumbles. That was awesome. My first memory was the ball he took away from Moss in the end zone; I think everybody knows that one. Moss was the man, and would grab that jump ball from anybody all day long. But, Charles got the best of him on that day. I remember the INT returns for TD, and one of the more famous TD returns; the fumble recovery after Urlacher stripped the ball in a certain game in Arizona…

And that brings us to the next relevant Bears topic in our Bear Check on this 100 degree day. Yes, it was in the desert where one of my greatest in person sports memories happened, on a certain Monday night many years ago. The Bears D and Hester were responsible for most of that special memory, bringing the Bears back to beat the Cardinals. There was someone else who put the cherry on top.
That person was Dennis Green, and that person has left us too soon. RIP Denny. I will never forget you from that night, when after this fabulous comeback, and a bunch of us Bears fans walked down to the field, they showed your postgame press conference. Instant… Classic. You will always have a place in my heart for that one Denny.
And Peanut, you will too.. even though you were an asshole to not sign those autographs. You seem like a pretty decent dude, so maybe I’ll give you a mulligan on that one. But more importantly, you gave it your all on the field when it counted, and for that, we thank you. Enjoy that retirement.
And current Bears, get ready for the season. Hope to see you guys soon in Bourbonnais. Bear Down!

Bears training camp right around the corner. How will this year turn out? All things seem to be pointing up, but how many times have we thought that in the last 30+ years since the greatest team ever in the 85 Bears? Pnut did sign that one day deal and retire a Bear…congrats, you deserved it. You were probably the greatest Bear corner of all time and a big turnover guy. Punch it loose pnut, pick it off pnut, enjoy retirement. Get ready Bears, the season is almost here, but enjoy the backseat for awhile, the Cubs are GOOD!
