I used to hate golf. When I was a kid, and we would go to someone’s house who was watching golf, I was like… why? This is the stupidest game of all time; it’s boring. Turn on some baseball, football, basketball… golf? This sucks. Well, my opinion on the game has evolved over time; I won’t sit on it for an entire day or anything like that, but I will tune in from time to time. Maybe it helps that I’ve started to play golf too… Yeah, I try to get out maybe 1-2x per year; haven’t had our little golf outing lately… hope to do that again soon. Actually had a family party at Top Golf earlier this summer, where my son got his first taste of driving the golf ball; he liked it… didn’t love it, but just a taste. One day down the road I’m sure we’ll be hitting the links together. In the meantime, there’s always mini golfing!
I’ve enjoyed miniature golf since I was a kid; it was one of our things to do as a family. My parents would look up different courses and we’d drive to them. Even on our road trip vacations, mini golf was a staple; it was a lot of fun. Today, the same is true. We’ve been mini golfing a number of times as a family; other than my son getting upset when he misses a putt (wonder where he got that from… haha), it’s a great time. This weekend, we actually went mini golfing both days! Let the good times roll…
On Saturday night, we were all shooting very well; I was shocked at how well my wife was playing. Sometimes, she’ll just kind of fade away and leave my son and I shooting for the top spot; not tonight though… she was on fire. As we headed to the final hole, we were tied for the lead; my son was a very respectable 3 strokes back. My wife and I had just shot that well. I’ll do my little broadcasting from time to time; I was doing the same as I approached the tee on the 18th hole… and this time, I actually lived up to the hype… a hole in one!!! Yeah, crazy… My wife ended up with a 3 on the hole, and I took down the first title of the year.
On Sunday afternoon, it was time for round two; this time with a special guest… one of my son’s cousins/our nephew. He was hilarious; reminded me of my sister the way he whacked the ball around the course. He had his black glove on the whole time; it was great. As he faded down to the bottom of the scorecard, the three of us battled for the top. I was dominating the front 9; my wife was not on her game… my son was though. This should be good. Well, as the back 9 began, I started fading a bit myself; my wife and son were gaining on me. As we came down to the wire, my wife held a 1 shot lead over me and, again, a 3 shot lead over my son. Could I repeat the feat on the 18th hole??? Well, let me tell you… I rimmed it out! I ended up with a tap in 2; my wife needed to do the same to hold on. Her shot was a little further away; didn’t matter. She buried it; revenge was hers!!! Haha…
My poor son… haha. My wife and I battling it out for the top spot all weekend, both of us playing really well. My son played good, but not good enough on these 2 days. But we’ll be back… we’ll be back.
