The NBA Summer League started; the NBA Summer League ended. That was quick. How’d the previous summer league champs our Chicago Bulls do?
Who can forget the 2016 NBA Summer League champion Chicago Bulls? I remember it well. We were eating at D’Agostino’s when Denzel Valentine hit the shot that brought home the title. Yet, for some reason, I don’t see another banner hanging at the UC; what’s up with that? I’ll tell you what’s up with that. The summer league is a joke that’s why. OK, maybe a little harsh, but seriously; have you tried watching one of those games? I guess it would be cool to be out in Vegas, and kind of like March Madness, get tickets to attend a few games on the same day. At the very least, you may see some of the actual stars of the league wandering around in the stadium. The Bulls certainly represented, cheering on their teammates. Other than that though… I turned it on, and tried to watch, but man… brutal. And if you find the regular season NBA tough to watch, forget about it.
That being said, it was good to see some of the guys that may have roster spots come the real games play out in Vegas. There was rookie Dalen Terry, who had some nice moments. There was another rookie Justin Lewis who played pretty well. Then there was Marko Simonovic, who ended up making the 2nd team All Summer League. He had a couple really good games, and a real dud too. Of course, I didn’t watch the games, but I did keep up with the results and stats. Like I said, I couldn’t watch it. It would be like watching the D league games; I tried doing that last year too… even that game was a little better than the Summer League.
Will all of those 3 guys have roster spots with the Bulls? At the very least, will we see them at some point this season? The Bulls actually finished with a 4-1 record; how did they not make the playoffs? Was there playoffs? I know there was a champ, the Trail Blazers I believe. They should make like a miniature Larry O’Brien trophy to give out to the winners… haha. I know there’s talk of a mid-season NBA tournament, kind of like that Mickey Mouse bubble tournament that the Lakers won a couple years ago? I can’t even believe that actually counts as a real ring… yawn. It’s like the 82 game season isn’t enough for these guys… resting once every other week… not playing hard all the time… Jordan would never…
I am excited about the upcoming season for the Bulls. We definitely need to punch our playoff ticket again, and this time, make some noise. Is getting to the Eastern Conference Championship game an unreasonable expectation? How many days until the NBA season starts? Go Bulls!
