Man, it’s been tough to watch. I’m almost caught up, but I have to get to the Cubs. After a series loss in Cincy, it was on to Pittsburgh for a 4 game series against the Pirates. Both the Reds and Pirates have been playing good ball lately, which is a big contributing factor to why the NL Central is so tight from top to bottom. Another big factor is the way everybody else has been slumping, including our Cubs.
18-5? OK, chalk it up, right? It was just one of those games. Thing is, we’ve been chalking up too much lately with our Cubbies. How many games do we just look like absolute dog crap? After watching the Cubs rip off a good run after the first couple weeks of the season, they looked unbeatable. Watching them the last couple weeks, they look like toast. What the heck man? What gives?
Certainly they’d bounce back from that effort in game 1 of the series. Nope. Not even the return of Hendricks coupled with a rain delay ripe for a season turning speech could help. Another lousy effort on offense, another crap appearance by Montgomery, and the Cubs were out of first place. All this time, through this most recent down, we always fell back on the fact that the Cubs were in first place. Well, I guess now we have to fall back on the fact that, “look, they’re only 1 game out???”

But seriously… when is this team going to start playing good ball again? Thankfully Hendricks came back quickly, which was especially important considering Hamels may be out for a while. It sure was good to see Q have a quality outing the last time we won a game in Cincy. Lester can typically be relied upon. The rookie got tagged on Monday and eventually sent back down until September. Will Yu contribute at some point?
Watching the Cubs lose that rain delayed game on Tuesday night, I felt like we were at the lowest point of the season. Absolutely nothing out there showed me the Cubs wanted to win that game. Poor fans… after traveling all that way to see a series opening beat down, now they have to endure hours of a rain delay only to see the Cubs crap the bed again on offense. Yes, it was the low point of the season in my opinion… that was of course until game 3 of the series; that comes next.
But I’m starting to worry a bit. This isn’t April woes, and I definitely don’t want to hear anything about scheduling. The Cubs should be hitting their stride, but apparently, are in progress of limping to the All Star break… again. That All Star break can’t come soon enough… I wish it was came after Tuesday’s loss, so I didn’t have to see what happened on Wednesday. OK, what happened…
