MLB All Star festivities were cool. The game itself was pretty boring for the most part; NL loses again?!?! 9 in a row for the AL; what does that mean? The AL is that much better than the NL? Well, looking at the past 9 World Series champs, the NL has the edge 5-4; the 3 previous champs before then were also NL. Not sure. The NL didn’t have a hit like for 5 innings though. I love a pitcher’s duel as much as the next guy, but I’d like to see the best of the best tally some hits. I thought the mic’d up parts were the best, especially the one where we could hear the pitcher and catcher talking; that was good stuff. I also liked when Julio was being interviewed and had to go catch a fly ball. It was nice for an exhibition game, but probably could be pretty distracting in the real games. Tried to watch as much as the game as possible, with my wife constantly wanting to flip due to how boring baseball is…

The Home Run Derby on the other hand, yeah, we were zoned in for that. Caught the first few on the radio, before settling down for Schwarber and Pujols; what a fricking joke. With Pujols pathetic number of HRs that he put up, I’m sure Kyle thought “this is going to be easy”… Well, he took it easy alright, and ended up losing to this washed up Hall of Famer. Yet, I saw some stuff out there that they miscounted Schwarbs’ home runs??? Sucks for those folks who put some money on Kyle, I’ll tell you that. Albert was sent home one round later when the eventual champ Juan Soto took him out.

About Soto… I felt like he was the star of stars on this evening. Sure, Julio put on a show; really like that kid, but Soto… he just mashes the ball… to all parts of the field. If not THE best hitter in the MLB, he is very close to the top, which brings me back to my daydream that I’ve been having, ever since it was announced he may be getting moved. I don’t want to read about the teams that are in the mix, when the Cubs aren’t part of that list. No, let me dream a little bit… bringing Soto, a 23 year old, future Hall of Famer, to Wrigley… man… that would help me forget about the train wreck it’s been the last year. I’ve seen some folks who don’t think this would be a good move, and for the life of me, have no idea what they’re thinking. There is no 1,2, or 3 players in the Cubs organization today that are worth keeping vs trading them for Soto. Yes, even the guys I WANT the Cubs to keep, like Willson. For Soto, it’s worth it. That still doesn’t mean I’d like for the Nationals to move him for dimes on the dollar, and the Cubs finally get the better end of a deal…

Time will tell… it probably won’t happen, but that’s not going to stop me from continuing to think about buying my son a Cubs Soto jersey when the deal is finally announced. I think it’s about time for a GOOD surprise coming from my Cubbies…
