July 19, 2017: Chop Away

So the records were misleading… both the Cubs and the Braves.  Another sweep was what we had here, as would have been expected at the start of the season.  It was the case of two teams going opposite directions.

Well, we waited long enough.  Six in a row good enough to start believing in this team again?  Or have you, like me, never stopped believing?  Maybe we need to see more… more, more!!!  Yes, we do.  After all, we do play the Cardinals this weekend in Wrigley.  We can’t start losing now.  3 straight sweeps?

Back to Atlanta for a second…  Freddie Freeman is a good baseball player.  Normally I would draft him in the fantasy league.  It figures the one year I don’t, he goes off.  Yeah, he missed some time due to injury, but is back… and now he plays some 3rd base too.  It was at his original position of first base where he robbed us of even more runs in this series.  Some great plays on those shots down the line.  It didn’t matter at the end of the day though.  They did make it interesting in the first game.

I had turned away from it, while Wade walked that tight rope.  I got an emphatic text with the good news.  Yeah, he’s still perfect by the way.  I did hear that music down in Atlanta too… Ohhhhhhhhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhh, oh, oh, oh, oh.  The chop baby!  I remember the whole stadium doing that in sync back in the 90s when the Braves were the shit.  That was some cool stuff.  They still do it!  It’s definitely one of the coolest in game cheers/chants that’s out there.  Hopefully it doesn’t get outlawed at some point.

It was the Cubs doing the chopping this series.  Chop away baby!!!  Who impressed you?  Contreras has been on fire, as the Cubs search for a veteran backstop for the playoff push.  How about Baez?  He’s been very good too.  Rizzo, of course, with the first Cubs home run in the new stadium.  Then there was Bryant, giving us that scare.  Thank you Jesus.  Even Montgomery went deep…. Lester doubled earlier in the series AND stole a base.  It seems like it’s all clicking right now.

Still, the Dodgers and Nationals look like the teams to beat right now in the NL; Dodgers more than Nationals.  I’d slot the Cubs in right behind them right now, ahead of the Dbacks, Rockies, and Brewers.  It’s nice to see our boys playing the way we know they can again.  Of course, they need to keep it up, while saving some for that late September playoff push.  Oh yeah, then there’s always playing your best ball in October and November.  We know the routine.

We’re Back! is what Willson said.  And I agree.  We’re back, we are back… and we’re still the defending champs of the major leagues, don’t sleep on us cause we’re make you pay.  Big Blue Machine getting rolling…  Go Cubs!

The chop is cool, always has been, but the Cubs were just too hot for the chop and their hotlanta braves. The Cubs have come out of the all-star break on fire. 2 straight road series sWeeps good enough for 6 Ws in a row! Now that is what we expected. The Cubs own their longest winning streak of the year now and look to build on it back at Wrigley vs the red turds. Willson says the Cubs are back. He is not just talking, either. His play is backing it up, behind the dish and in his newly slotted 4 hole. He cant catch every game, but he is doing a damn good job. I am pretty sure some of that can be credited back to grandpa rossy being his tutor last year. KB scared Cubs nation, but thankfully it was just a sprain. Hope he will come back this weekend vs the red turds to do some damage. The Cubbie blue train is rolling strong now…full steam ahead back to Wrigley!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
