July 18, 2024: Signing Day

posted in: Bears | 0

Over the past couple days, it’s been signing day at Halas Hall. Both Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze officially signed their contracts; was there ever a doubt? Still, pretty cool to see the off the field stuff taken care of… now, we turn on the field. We are 14 days from Bears football! Isn’t it great? The start of Bears season is always an exciting time; this year seems to have a little more oomph to it. A new era is about to begin. Did we finally get it right at the most important position in the game?

Funny enough, we have to wait a little longer than the 14 days for the Bears premiere on Hard Knocks, which per my quick search, begins on August 6th; can’t wait for that. This will give us an inside look at all things Bears; we all like those inside looks right? How much will they really show? They can’t give away the shop; you never saw the Patriots with Belicheat on there right? These other NFL teams have probably assigned folks to watch these episodes as a form of advanced scouting; I know the Packers will have somebody watching… it’s the smart thing to do. Speaking about the cheese, I just happened to catch a Jordan Love clip. Somebody asked him about his contract situation, at which point he laughed, and shut down the interview… sensitive are we? We have to wait almost 4 months until we play them!

How about betting on the Bears? I always seem to get myself in trouble with this. Yet, one angle that I do like is betting them in the preseason. Embarking on a new era should bring a little more motivation to win these games; having a backup QB with some experience helps too. I think it’s safe to say I will have a wager on the Hall of Fame game, and yes, it will be on the Bears. I just looked at the line is already out! Bears -1.5… I like it. Have to imagine that line will go up not down? We’ll wait and see. Now as far as Week 1 vs the Titans, well, that’s another story.

It’ll be cool to have another Bears player go into the HOF too; in fact this year, we’ll have both Mongo and Hester. These inductions will just add to the good mojo that seems to be surrounding this team. Oh yeah, and they will add to the Bears NFL leading total of players in the Hall; not too shabby. Thankfully, I was alive to see Mongo do his thing on the greatest defense of all time. I also remember very well what the greatest return man of all time meant to the team. These two are very deserving, no doubt.

I feel like putting on a Bears shirt right now; too early? Never too early to wear Bears gear. In fact, wearing a Bears shirt is kind of my go to for flights leaving Chicago, yes, even in the down years. With the excitement bubbling, we just need to keep in mind that we haven’t won a damn thing yet. There’s work to be done; I’m ready to see the boys get to work. Bear Down!
