July 18, 2018: UC Changes

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 1

There’s been some other stuff going on in Chicago sports; go figure.  The Bulls and Blackhawks were busy making some changes.

Jabari Parker… another kid from Chicago.  What do you think?

I like the idea.  First time around, with the other kid from Simeon, it was supposed to end differently.  It was supposed to end with the Bulls raising a banner; it started well enough.  Nobody liked how it ended.  Now here we go again?

This kid from Chicago has torn his ACL too… twice.  Good thing I guess is that nobody has torn it 3 times?  It’s taking a shot, a 20M per year shot on a guy coming back from serious injuries.  I guess it is better than drafting a guy scheduled for back surgery at the number 7 slot.  I like his game, even though he doesn’t necessarily subscribe to defense per his press conference.  It’s a chunk of money, but it doesn’t put us in a horrible spot, does it?  It’s low risk, high reward… can’t believe I’m repeating a GarPax-ism.  But… this Bulls team may actually be shaping up.  I’m ready to give him a chance; what other choice do we have?

Bye bye Hossa…  He was already gone, done playing that is.  So of course, moving his contract seems like a very smart move by the Hawks, one in which I would be very supportive of.  However, what they had to give up to get rid of the contract wasn’t good.

Vinnie?  I really liked him.  Young, fast, just what the Hawks need more of.  And now, we have one less of those guys.  And what about Jordan?  I thought he was one of the solid young D guys we had.  Well, he’s gone too.  Seems like a steep price to pay to unload a contact, and open up some cap space.  Now if the Hawks parlay that into a big name signing, OK, but damn… this move feels bad.

Not as bad as what happened to Ray Emery.  Remember him?  I do.  He was the 1-2 punch with Crow the year of the 2nd Cup.  In 2013, they were both lights out.  First game that comes to mind, if my memory serves me correctly, is one in Calgary, where he stood on his head leading us to victory.  If my memory serves me right, the GWG was Hossa’s…

Anyways, so sad to hear about his passing.  Jumped into the water and never came up.  Tragic, no doubt.  RIP Ray.

I hate to say it, but the Hawks appear to have taken a step backwards with that trade.  I don’t hate to say it, but the Bulls appear to have gotten better with the latest signing.  Are these UC changes symbolizing these two ships passing each other in the night?  Is the Hawks window officially closed?  Is the Bulls window about to open back up?

Excited to get some cheaper Hawks tickets; still think I can get cheap Bulls tix.  Always look forward to each season starting, but there’s a lot of other business going on, more specifically the Cubs.  But there is that other team that is about to begin too…

$20M a year for a guy with 2 torn ACLs is damn good for Jabari! Damn it must be good to be in the nba and get paid millions to be average. That is what I see in this guy. I like that he is from Chicago, but I feel that him and Lavine are similar players with no superstar potential…just 2 guys that can play a role. I guess if you get enough of them on the same team, you should make the playoffs, which is what the goal should be for this Bulls team.

Thanks for everything Big Hoss! You will be missed…sucks to go out this way. Sucks even more to go out the way Emery did…RIP. Is Crow going to be healthy this year? That is the biggest question facing the Hawks, and I don’t think they have that answer yet, which is scary, especially considering how the window seems to be closing.
