With the All Star break in the rear view mirror, it’s time for the Cubs to really start playing, right? 5-1 in the first 6 games after the break, the Cubs bumped their lead to 2.5 games. They’ve won both series, and are playing like they should be playing. It’s good they were at home, because that’s where the Cubs have been making their bones all year. 34-17 at Wrigley; 3rd most home wins in the majors. It’s the 18-27 road record that is most concerning, but we have a few days before we start improving on that. Let’s talk about taking care of business in the first two series after the break, against division foes at that.
The Cubs had a losing record against the Pirates heading into this series. What was most fresh in my memory was dropping 3 out of 4 in Pittsburgh just before the break. As the second half begins, it was time for a little payback. We swept their ass right out of town. After a close one in Friday’s tilt, we outscored them 18-7 over the weekend. There was no better way to start the unofficial 2nd half of the season. Next came the Reds…
Talk about having our number, the Reds beat us in each of our first 3 series in the first half; certainly owed them some amount of payback. That’s why I was so pissed with the performance in the series opener; that left us 3-7 against the Reds this year. But, the Cubs bounced back to win the next two and take the series. That’s what it’s all about… winning series. If we do that consistently, we will get the job done, and get back into the postseason.

The use of insulated shipping containers helps control drug temperatures, maintaining drug safety free viagra for women and efficacy. It doesn’t get any easier though. The Cubs definitely need to take care of business in the final 3 games of this homestand against the Padres. After that, we head west to San Fran; they’ve been one of the hottest teams in the majors. After that, it’s 9 games against the Brewers and Cardinals, 6 of them against the Brew Crew. We’ll see how good our 2nd half is going to start after the next couple weeks.
It was good to see Yu pitch well. In his first 2 games after the break, he’s pitched 12 innings and given up zero runs. How big would it be for him to start pitching like that? Probably my favorite moment of Yu’s Cubs stint came when he struck out Puig, pumped his fist, and gave a yell. Show some emotion… pitch like the guy we thought you would be… help lead us to the playoffs. Hamels should be coming back soon, which would give us our 5 healthy starters, which collectively are among the best in baseball. Yeah, I know the Dodgers have been killing it, and completely understand that getting back to the series will mean meeting them again, but so what? Do you think I’m scared of the Dodgers? WE are the ones who capitalized on our recent success with a World Series title; still hanging on to 88 in LA…
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. First thing first, continue to win series. Let’s build on that lead; give ourselves some breathing room. We’ll be making more moves, that’s for sure; can’t wait to see what they are. Ready to settle in and watch some good baseball from our Cubbies. Let’s keep it rolling. Go Cubs!!!
