Yeah, she was right. We were leaving on Tuesday night, NOT Wednesday night like I thought. I probably would have gotten a notification for check in from the airline right? Anyways, glad somebody was paying attention…
The last day of vacation sucks, totally opposite of the first day. Packing up everything; planning the trip back to the airport. Yet, no matter how much I love to go on vacation, it is always good to come home. The good thing about THIS vacation is that I’d still have some days left; not going back to work immediately was key.
Instead of taking the most direct route back to LAX, we took the scenic, PCH route. It was a long way back, but pretty nice as we passed through Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach among others. Like I said, I love the ocean. Didn’t get enough time in that big pool of water on this trip as I would have liked, but it’s all good. It was a vacation where we tried to squeeze as much into it as possible, vs trying very hard to do nothing. I like both kinds. I’m ready for the second kind now.
We had already got our In N Out fix; I missed out on Tommy’s on this trip though. We did scoop up some Winchell’s buttermilk donuts; I scarfed mine down in the airport. As we waited for our flight, the ASG was about to begin.

Funny to see Sale on the mound, as Abreu held Baez on 1B. But the big hit of the game, for Cubs fans at least, was in Willson’s first All Star AB. I clearly remember his first Major League AB…
I called it. I was sitting on the couch… I probably blogged about it. In fact, I know I did… just too lazy to look it up right now. Still trying to catch up. Anyways, the way the year had been going for the Cubs, it would only be appropriate that this long awaited prospect, who got a standing ovation in this Sunday night game vs the Pirates, go deep in his first plate appearance. He had actually got an ovation the day before when he came into catch at the end of the game. But he did go deep alright… and yes, it WAS the Cubs year. Fast forward to the ASG…
First pitch, BAM! Just like that, gone. How cool! Figuring the wifi would be working on the airplane, I thought I’d get to see the game. It wasn’t working, so no Air ASG, but that was OK. Taught my son how to play poker on the plane ride there and back. Played some UNO with my wife, and did the crossword puzzle in the magazine together. My son wouldn’t let me doze off… I’m happy he didn’t. Those plane rides were good family time, as we sat side by side for the long flight.
Yes, vacation was officially over. We were back in the CHI. Like I said, love vacation, but it’s always good to come home.

Home sWeet home, Chicago! Vacation is great but always good to be home.
Willson blasted a home run in his first all star game at bat…pretty damn cool! Definitely reminiscent of his first at bat with the Cubs…another home run! What a player he has been behind the plate for the Cubs! That year with Rossy did wonders for his development. Tie that together with his talent and the Cubs have an all star catcher for years to come!
