July 16, 2015: Ten Years

Where have the last 10 years gone?  Taking a line from Ferris Bueller, life moves pretty fast around here.

That’s an entire decade. Do you remember where you were 10 years ago?  How well do you remember these years?  Nowadays, I can barely remember yesterday, or last week, let alone years ago.  The days seem to run together. You blink and a month is gone. You blink again, it’s the next year.  The tip of the day is don’t blink.

Keeping your eyes wide open is probably more doable. Soaking in every moment…savoring all the good times…moving on from the bad times…enjoying every minute of this life we have.  It’s not always easy, but it’s well worth it. It’s like this with my teams too.

10 years ago the Sox won it all.  That’s something Sox fans will never forget. 2005 will always be remembered for that. The Cubs had some good moments in there, but nothing that can rival that. The Bears and Bulls too. There were some good years and some bad ones too. There were none that will be etched forever, although there were plenty of great memories. The Hawks on the other hand help to remember this past decade.

It’s that weird phenomenon. I can remember specific games from years ago.  Yet, I can’t remember simple things from a week ago. When championships are won, that year goes into the permanent memory bank. 2010, 2013, & 2015 will always be remembered for the Stanley Cups that were won.  It’s like that in life too. You remember the big years. Maybe it’s graduation, the year you got married, the years your kids were born. Those are the “championships” that will be remembered most. There are plenty more moments that help piece the years together, but those championships are the biggies.

So back to 10 years ago. It was not only the Sox world title, but it was the year my sister, the youngest of the 3 siblings, got married. Thankfully, she picked a great guy. I have to share the story when we first met.

It was a Madden football game. I thought I was great….and I was. There was no way I was losing in my house to my sisters boyfriend. Yet, with less than a minute left, he held the lead and the ball.  Then, on a running play milking the clock, I hit his back, the ball popped loose, and I returned it for a TD. That’s what I’m talking about.

I shared this story 10 years ago too. It’s one of those memories that piece the years together.  The wedding itself was one of the biggies.

So on the 10 year anniversary of that day, I wish them Happy Anniversary. Cherish that championship and every one since then.

They say Chicago fans are the greatest in the world……however, 10 years ago, I was advised to be my husband’s biggest fan and vice versa…..I am happy to report we are still cheering each other on throughout all our wins and losses!!!! It’s nice to know this blogger has room in his big Chicago sports heart to be our fan, too!! Thanks!!!!

So many “championship” memories and hopefully tons more to come. As you get older, you forget some and remember others, all the while more are being made. These memories bring you back to that place for a moment and put a smile on your face…not much better than that. Congrats on the big10 and many more “championships” to come for all of us!
