July 15, 2015: Break Time

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls | 1

Lets take this all star break to catch up on all the sports that are not in season, or as we tell my son, the teams that are on vacation.

The vacation is about to be up for the Bears. Are you ready for football?  I’m not in any rush, for a couple reasons. The first one being the fact that baseball is relevant in Chicago again, especially for the Cubs. They will hopefully keep my attention into the start of NFL season. The second reason is the season the Bears are coming off of. Tough, tough year last year.  I am encouraged by some of the changes made, but am not convinced the Bears can get back into the playoffs; sorry, got to keep it real.  I really like John fox, and am interested to see how Pace does, but we still have Cutler. At least expectations for this year will be down…maybe we can surprise.

The Bulls are another team that had a rough year, at least the end. Then to see Thibs get canned… It just seemed like the wrong move. Now since then, buckets was signed; A+ on that move. The other guys like hinrich (player option), dunleavy and brooks were brought back.  The draft pick has been looking good in summer league.  So if Hoiberg plays him, and McDermott, and Snell more to complement the core that appears to be remaining intact, maybe we have one more run in us with this team.

The team still celebrating and enjoying their vacation more than anyone, is our blackhawks. The 3rd cup in the six years makes for a pleasant offseason. Well, it certainly hasn’t been boring. We knew the moves were coming, and they have been. Sharp, oduya, Richards, vermette were all somewhat expected departures. I’m ok with all of them leaving. The one I still can’t get over is Saad.  Just can’t figure out why we couldn’t make that work. We extended the guy we got in exchange for 4 mil per year. Saad wasn’t worth slightly more than that?  And yes, we did get some nice pieces back, but we also gave up some prospects. Can’t argue with success though, and the Hawks have had plenty of that.  I’m sure they’ll be just fine.

So a little break time and a little catch up. That sounds pretty good in general:  a break and some catchup.  Vacation coming soon; lets get there, and let’s hope that when our teams return from theirs, we have good stories to tell.  Now, back to baseball…

Expectations for the Bears is definitely down from a year ago…maybe that will help this team since all that hype got in their heads last year. Hopefully, fox can maximize cutler’s abilities and have an improved defense. If that happens, onward and upward for this Bears team.

The Bulls have a new coach and system coming in. The core is the same. Hopefully, guys will be and stay healthy, and maybe hoiberg will play the young guys more so the core is not worn down as much. Would love to see the Bulls dethrone the queen in the east!

The Blackhawks are still enjoying the Cup. Moves have been made…saad’s questionable, but most seem to think the Blackhawks could be better next year. Only piece left is kruger, and it sounds like he is coming back. Trust in the brass and keep that Cup!
