OK, let’s put a bow on this thing. We’ve grazed through each division with some observations and thoughts; now let’s put together what we think is the NFL playoff picture. And the winners are… drum roll please.
AFC West- Chiefs, AFC East- Dolphins, AFC South- Texans, AFC North- Ravens. I don’t think there are a whole lot of surprises there; maybe the Dolphins? Anyways, I don’t like chalk and/or betting on favorites, but these make the most sense to me. As far as the 3 wild card spots: Bengals, Bills, and Titans. OK, my first surprise playoff pick… The Tennessee Titans. The Bengals and Bills… well, it’s mostly about the QB in those two spots. So the AFC playoff picture is set. On to the NFC…
NFC West- Niners, NFC East- Eagles, NFC South- Falcons, NFC North- Lions. Here we go again… playing the favorites here to win each division, except the Falcons. The remaining playoff spots: Cowboys, Bucs, and… Bears! Did you think I was going to pick the Packers? Yes, I’m supposed to be picking with my head and not heart, and honestly, this is what I think. I think Jordan Love and the Packers overperformed last year; I think the Bears will be that team this year in the North. I can only hope. So how will this all play out?
The biggest thing in the AFC is the Dolphins getting a home game this year; does that get them to the AFC Championship game and beyond? And sorry, although I’ve picked chalk to get here, I’m not picking it in the playoff rounds. I have the Dolphins and the Bengals in the AFC Championship game, with Miami advancing to the Super Bowl.
In the NFC, I really want to pick the Niners, but… they’re burned me before; I’m a little gun shy. I still do think they are the cream of the crop in the NFC, but just as a couple injuries derailed them at the end of the day last year, if their depth is tested, the result may be the same, even earlier this year. In the NFC Championship game, I’ve got: (no, NOT the Bears, although I can dream) Detroit vs Philly. I’ve got Detroit advancing to the Super Bowl.
Down to New Orleans Lions and Dolphins fans will go for Super Bowl LIX; who will emerge victorious? It’s been since 1973 that the Dolphins have won one; 1973 was actually the 2nd of back to back Super Bowl victories, with the 1972 season being the famous, or infamous (I hate seeing those guys celebrate every year), undefeated season. The Lions on the other hand, well, we all know they have 0 Super Bowls, but, but… for all those people who don’t know, there were NFL Championships awarded to teams BEFORE the Super Bowl… I know, shocking, and Detroit had won their share back in the day. They have 4 NFL Championships to 2 for the Dolphins, although the Dolphins do have a 2-0 advantage in the current day Super Bowl. I’m going with the Lions. Yes, Detroit will win the Super Bowl this year, and although they won’t repeat, the division will… wink, wink. Let’s play some football already!!!
