July 14, 2022: Lucky Ten

posted in: Cubs | 0

The Cubs did their part; they continued to play like crap, allowing the Orioles to leave town with their winning streak intact. Baltimore is currently on a 10 game winning streak, so is Seattle by the way. With two 10 game winning streaks going in the MLB right before the All Star break, the Cubs will be looking for their lucky ten. With the first place Mets starting a 4 game series at Wrigley on Thursday, it could happen; yes, the Cubs are primed to enter the All Star break on a 10 game losing streak.

4 vs the Dodgers, 2 vs the Orioles, and now game 1 against the Mets; weren’t we just talking about the Cubs winning like 4 or 5 series in a row? Even when you’re not a good team, you’ll still have your ups and downs over 162; when you’re a bad team, the downs will outnumber the ups. It’s time to embrace the down. We’re just getting started you know? With the trade deadline approaching, and the Cubs going absolutely nowhere, they will look to move more pieces. If you know one thing, you know who the #1 target for other teams will be: Willson Contreras. We can only hope other teams will be fooled by Ian Happ’s All Star appearance, and try to acquire him. David Robertson will be a nice addition to a contender’s bullpen; maybe the Cubs could work out a deal with the Mets in town? Who else? Maybe somebody needs a championship experienced catcher, and makes David Ross a deal to come out of retirement to play a few months; fingers crossed man… I’m already sick of this shit. This isn’t a rebuild; this is an absolute demolition job. There is no light at the end of the tunnel; there ain’t even a flicker. The Cubs will be bad for the foreseeable future, but have no fear: when the “time is right” the Cubs will spend money again. Woo hoo… can’t wait. Maybe this will happen before my son goes to high school in 4 years, probably not though.

On Thursday night, the Cubs had one of their bright spots on the mound. Yeah, Keegan Thompson is pretty decent; I like that kid. Have no fear though, he got knocked around today like nobody’s business. The Mets clobbered the Cubs 8-0. It was like leading the lambs to slaughter… turning another beautiful summer night at Wrigley into a fricking bloodbath. Are we having fun yet? I tried to turn away from this accident on the side of the road. I turned on the Sox game, thinking, maybe rooting against them will help me feel better; well, that lasted exactly 3 batters before Luis Robert hit a Grand Slam… next. Wait, what… The Fugitive is coming on next?!?! I love that movie!!!

Yeah, that will make me feel better. I’ve been camped out in front of the TV the last 3 nights, each of those nights watching the Cubs get clobbered; I need a break… at least until tomorrow. I can’t help myself…
