Seeing the Orioles in town reminds me of the Orioles hat I used to have. How the heck did that happen? Well, I did go through that phase where I wore what I thought was cool; most of the time it probably wasn’t, but anyways… Yeah, I had a nice fitted black Orioles hat with that new bird logo on it. That wasn’t the only piece of sporting gear that I had that did NOT belong to one of MY teams. I remember a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey… yeah, go figure. I think that’s when hockey jerseys became cool to wear, so I picked that one; damn kid didn’t have his priorities straight. I had many Dodgers’ hats and a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey; that one makes sense. The Dodgers were my team growing up at Harrison Park, so yeah, I had some of their gear. I had an Indians jersey too; can’t really explain that one, except maybe I knew they would be a big part of Cubs history one day… I even had a Cardinals hat… I think I just threw up in my mouth. Yeah, I think I picked it up when we visited Busch Stadium back in the day to see the Cubs play; it was a souvenir, as was my Reds hat that I got when I went to Riverfront. Makes sense right? I had a Philadelphia Eagles jersey; it was Donovan McNabb… he is from Chicago. But I wore this jersey to our Madden Bowl; the Eagles were the team I used to win the title that year at about 7am after playing all night. I even had a Dallas Mavericks jersey. Yeah, Dirk Nowitzki… I’m a big white guy, he’s a big white guy… haha. That’s all that comes to mind right now… No more of that stuff, for me that is; the last of that stuff gone via eBay 15 or so years ago. My son likes other teams and players though; I’m OK with that, minus a few rules. No jerseys of other players and teams; only shirts, hats, etc. And no gear of the most hated teams… that’s all. We’ll see… maybe I give in and get him a jersey of another player/team… I have held off for now.
Back to the Orioles and Cubs… The Orioles won their 9th in a row; good for them. I would love to see the Orioles make the playoffs and make some noise against the likes of the Yankees and Astros for starters. It probably won’t happen, but it’s a nice story. The Cubs became part of their story on Tuesday night at Wrigley. Ian Happ, freshly minted All Star, went deep in the first. I saw that stat: Cubs have the most runs in the 1st inning than any other MLB team. That’s kind of crazy, considering how the Cubs suck. Yeah, they’re 19 games under 500 now, on their way to last place. There are only 5 teams under 400 for the year, and the Cubs are one of them… congrats to us! Meanwhile, these red hot Orioles are also in last place, except they’re sitting at 500. Any wagers on the Orioles making it 10 in a row on Wednesday night at Wrigley???
