The other day I was at work, talking to one of my security guys. He said he blamed Cubs fans for COVID. He said Cubs fans knew the Sox were going to win the World Series this year, so they brought out the virus. That’s some funny shit. This is the kind of banter that I’ve been missing. Back and forth all summer long with Sox fans. But hey, even with us Cubs fans bringing out the Corona, we may still see a World Series champ crowned this year. Of course, if it’s the Sox, you know it has a big ‘ol asterisk.
Sox fans sure are feeling themselves aren’t they? Luis Robert this. Tim Anderson that. Haha… these guys haven’t won a damn thing yet, but OK. I get it. There is definitely a reason for Sox fans to be excited; it’s been a while. It must have been pretty tough watching the Cubs get really good; it must have been downright excruciating to see the Cubs finally get their World Series win. 2005 seems like a century ago… But just like I would tell Sox fans after their year: who’s going to win it next? Sox fans can certainly whisper that a little louder now, with the Cubs window seemingly closing; it’s not closed yet by the way.
Yes, Sox fans want to push their window wide open… and then came the ‘rona. Does this hurt the Sox? Does this help them? What about the impact on the Cubs? Plenty of that talk to be tossed around, as I’m sure it will be as the season gets underway. As I’ve discussed, this season will be different; there is no doubt of that. However, it will still be very much the same as well. The fundamentals that are required for winning are still the same. Yet, the “flash in the pans” may actually hit their target in a 60 game season. Then once a team like this gets in, anything can happen in the playoffs. That’s why I think this short season could actually help the Sox.

They’re not ready yet. But, with a shortened season, if they get hot, yeah, sure… I can see it. Am I worried about it? No. I don’t really worry about the Sox like Sox fans worry about the Cubs; like they say on the internet… rent free… is that right? That’s just that Napolean complex type stuff… you know, kind of like the red headed step child. But hey, at least Sox fans are able to watch their games on TV… thanks Marquee; Xfinity guy still waiting here. See, I’m giving the Sox fans some ammo…
Thing is, I know so many Sox fans, and I know them well. Anything that they can come at me with, I can easily respond. Fact is, for a lot of them, I know their team better than they do; I know the Cubs even better. Yeah, that back and forth at work all day… man, I miss it.
I’m sure I’ll figure out a way. As the season begins, I’ll definitely holler at my Sox fans… a text here, text there, closely watching that hype train. Meanwhile, I’m more worried about the Cubs; I think a shortened season can help the Cubs for a different reason. No need to turn it on and off over 162, or trying to in the Cubs case… that rarely works by the way. No, it should be A game for a straight 60, and the Cubs on their A game… I’ll take that all day. So let the games begin already; hopefully I’ll be able to watch them.
