OK, let’s put a bow on this week in Vegas, before we head back to reality. I was feeling good, tired but definitely not hungover, as we began our morning. More early breakfast, but instead of opening the pool, we took a ride up to Red Rock. It was nice to see yet another side of Vegas, this time a beautiful, untouched side. Back to the room for a bit before heading back to the pool to close it out again. No planned event on this evening, just an early dinner and some walking around Caesars and Bellagio. We kept it nice and close to our home base, and for the first night this week, my son was actually wide awake as we returned to the room. He wanted me to play some poker with him, so he could play with his newly acquired souvenir poker chips. We ended up just watching a bit of TV as he winded down. He was out, my wife was good, and it was time to go back down to the casino. I had one night in town…

No going to bed early. No orange juice, cranberry juice, or hot tea. Not tonight. With a plane ride ahead of me, where I could knock out for a while, I would let loose a bit. Yeah, Stella was my partner as we began the journey through the evening; she would stay with me all night. It started well… hitting 3 of the first 4 roulette spins; I even called one of them, saying “22” right before it hit. Then we saw some zeros, and some other obscure digits; I walked away up $75… and of course, waiting for my beer, saw the next number come in at 22 again… It’s all good; on to poker.

This time the tourney would be pushed up 2 hours to midnight, but apparently nobody got the memo. They had to cancel it. I had already started playing Omaha; I think I may have played this one time long ago in Vegas. I like the game, just had to get familiar with the betting; it was pot limit. I took one to the jugular, as I was forced to make a decision for my stack with top 2 pair and a flush draw; now that I think about it, I think I needed running hearts to catch my flush. I put him on trips, which should have equalled me laying this hand down, but noooo… and yes, he did have trips, and the same 2 pair that I had. I got crushed. Back to Hold em…

I was feeling good right about now; talking a lot at the table. Telling guys if I had a hand or not… talking about MJ and the 90s Bulls… telling Philly guys at the table how I hated the Eagles after Parkey doinked it, but how my stomach was warmed when I saw Alshon drop that one the following week… had a guy on my level talking with me, giving me advice on how to fly Spirit airlines. Yeah, it was a lot of fun, but as my chip stack dwindled down, I needed a miracle. Flopping top pair, I went all in; got snap called with pocket rockets. I pulled out 2 pair on the river, and lived to see another day. I told the guy just be patient, and he would get me back, as Stella kept talking to me. But no, it would be some other donkey calling me with a pair of deuces after the flop against my top pair, turning another deuce that sent me back to the room. That’s poker…

Before I got back to the room, I wanted to play one more spin of roulette… I pulled out my $10 slot ticket, but they told me they couldn’t take it. I pulled out $10 out of my wallet, but they said it was now a $15 minimum. So I pulled out my last $20; she gave me $30 in chips. Cool, I would have 2 spins. I hit my number on the first spin, which brought me to my second spin. Bears fan was at the table. When seeing my Bears shirt said he’d be on the season ticket waiting list for 20 years; he was hammered. On the second spin, I told him he should come with me on 34… sweetness of course. He didn’t, but instead, stood up and put his hand over the wheel when it was spinning; the pit boss yelled at him. All I was thinking was if my number didn’t hit, I would protest. Then 34 hit, and my 5 chips turned into 175, pulling me almost even for the week. Cashed in immediately, then thought… maybe I should go gamble some more… H20 finally came to my rescue and I headed back to the room a little after 3am. I’m good… until next time… Viva Las Vegas.
