This year’s All Star game was a bit different than last year’s. It wasn’t one of the best pitchers in baseball from the White Sox starting the game. It wasn’t an entire infield full of Cubs all stars. We did have Avi, Wade Davis, and the entire Cubs coaching staff to represent Chicago. Still, I didn’t watch one pitch of the game itself.
I did watch the derby. Now that was fun. I had found out that Sanchez knocked out Stanton first round, as I walked into see the other home town boy (and ex-Cub by the way) Justin Bour launching home runs. He was certainly impressive, as he got the crowd going. Problem was, his opponent was Aaron Judge.
I should have scooped him off the fantasy baseball wire early in the year; the guy who did is in 2nd place. This guy is an absolute beast. 30 home runs before the all star break topped Joe D’s 29 as a Yankee rookie. He took center stage during this HR derby. The dude is like a men among boys; his size certainly gives that impression. Also, the ease at which he hit them out. He’s got that natural home run swing. He was hitting them to all fields too. The pitcher wasn’t even that good, but he was hitting them out regardless. It turned out that Bour never had a chance.
Neither did the next guy or the next guy. He cruised to the title once he got past Bour. Is he the next big thing? You can say he’s already arrived. Can he continue it? I loved the fans with the wigs on, and all the signs playing on the “judge” name. He’s definitely in the right market for all that. He is helping make the Yankees must watch tv. MVP? You be the judge.

Like I said, the game itself, this year, did not interest me. Yes, I did see that the only Cubs representative gave up the game winning HR…so what?!? He’s still perfect in save opportunities for us his year. He’s been one of the bright spots for sure, doing a fine job replacing Chappy. But the Sun Times plasters his picture and the title Loveable Losers on the back page. Really?
That pissed me off. If I were Joe, I’d cut that out, and bring that into the locker room. I thought the 2016 Cubs had destroyed that name forever; in my mind, they did. Yet, people want to bring that back right away? Idiots. But let’s use that to fire us up. We just won it all, and still somebody wants to say that? For some, it will never be enough. Let’s show them.
Yeah, it was a bust of a first half. Next, we’ll talk about what we need to see second half. We’ll take a look at the same for the Sox too. Two teams at two different points in the process. I’m ready for baseball to be back…officially. Friday night can’t get here soon enough.

Surprised to see Stanton get knocked out first round. I was hoping for Judge vs Stanton final. That would have been pretty awesome, although Bour gave Judge a run that got the crowd pumped up. Heard from some people that they thought the bats were juiced. Who knows. If there is a time for juiced bats, it is in the home run derby.
As far as the game, didn’t watch any of it except the 9th. Then I saw Wade Davis give up the winning home run in the 10th. Oh well, stay perfect for the Cubbies Wade!
By the way, anybody else catch the only pitcher that Maddon left out there for 2 innings? Yep, carlos martinez from the red turds…hahaha.
