July 11, 2015: Double Played

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

Sox 2 Cubs 0. That’s the story at the end of the first two games. That sucks!  How did this happen?

Well, it started with the double play, 5 of them actually, during Fridays 1-0 loss. The Sox got out of jam after jam with tremendous defense. I thought the Sox sucked on D?  They didn’t Friday. Yet, the cubs didn’t get the big hit either, letting rodon the wild one of the hook. I need to check my math, but I don’t think 0 runs wins any game.

So already down one, Saturday wasn’t going to get any easier. The best pitcher in the city, and maybe all of baseball, dominated this 12th ranked offense (maybe lower after this weekend). One run and 10Ks later, the Cubs would lose another. Lester was just ok. That’s not what we paid for. We could have got OK for a lot cheaper. Lesters grade at the break..,a big fat C.

So what to make of this Sox team?  They’ve been hot. They’ve been looking like the team people expected. Are they changing perspective on the year?  Curious what the Sox fans think. Are the Sox going to make a push for the postseason, or are they merely teasing?  Will this team end up mediocre like every one since 2005?

As far as the Cubs go, this is one of the down swoops of the year.  Expecting a 500 team, this cubs team has looked better than that and very much like a playoff team. Yet, they’ve been given a dose of reality evey so often.  This time it’s their neighbors smacking them down. Is it a year early?

Emotions run high in this one. The sways in perception of each teams season is more drastic as the results of this series play out. It’s not over yet. Still one to play in wrigley and then at the cell. These series, like the season, typically have their own ups and downs. With Arrieta on the mound tomorrow, I like our chances. Yet, you do have to score runs to win, and that’s been the Cubs biggest problem.

Its been ugly. The Cubs have been played so far…double played. Time to step up and close out the promising first half with a W. Go Cubs!
