Thank God for the Blackhawks! The best franchise in the NHL, and the best franchise in Chicago, made a move that gets the mojo right back on the Hawks’ side. The signing of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to long term deals is like direct deposit: money in the bank.
Was there ever a question? No. Hell no! This deal was going to get done no matter what. No matter what the dollar amounts came out to, these guys will NEVER leave Chicago. I don’t like to use the word never, and always say “never say never”, but this is as close to a sure thing as we got going here in Chicago. It feels good doesn’t it? For all the what ifs going on with the Cubs prospects and the when will we seriously contend questions, for all the who else can the Sox get to help Abreu and Sale questions, for all the who else will the Bulls sign, and for all the hope surrounding the upcoming Bears season, there is one SURE thing in this city. The Hawks will be good for a very long time. 6 straight playoff appearances, 4 Western Conference Finals, and 2 Stanley Cups, these are our winners; this is the team carrying the W flag right now around these parts.
I’ve said a lot already about Toews and Kane: how great these guys are, how clutch these guys are, how their #’s will be hanging from the rafters in the UC when it’s all said and done. Just think that it could have worked out differently… There never has been any questions with the Captain, but there were plenty about Kane. His maturity… imagine another off-the-ice incident a couple years back. His 2-way play… his offense abilities, both shooting and passing, were never in doubt, but the other parts of his game were. Remember the trade rumors? I remember people hoping for it. It seems like decades ago… What if the Hawks didn’t get past Detroit 2 years ago and win their 2nd cup? How would this roster look? Would Kane have been moved? It’s great for a change to look at negative what ifs, while we live in this beautiful, positive reality. No regrets here.

How many more cups will these guys bring to Chicago? While we’ve had the best football team in the history of the NFL, it was only 1 year. The Sox only won 1 world series in most of our lifetimes. The Cubs….yeah. The Bulls have been the only dynasty in recent times for our city. Those were great times. The playoffs were a given. Advancing out of the East was a given. We were spoiled so bad in the 90s, it was almost like “wake me when we reach the Finals”. Once we overcame the Pistons in 1991, it was all Bulls, except for that 2 year MJ hiatus. The team of the decade brought 6 championships to Chicago, as the Bulls ruled the world. We could have history repeating itself here. While MJ was the center piece of the Bulls titles, it’s a two-man show on the ice for the Hawks. We already have statues of a previous Hawks dynamic duo in Hull & Mikita, will we have 2 more? With a title in 2010, and one in 2013, it’s not out of the question to get AT LEAST 2 more cups this decade. Not quite the 6 that the Bulls got us, but 4 in this decade would satisfy most Hawks fans, although you can never have enough championships… Can they get 4 more in the next 5 years??? I’ll be happy with 2 more in the next 5, and one more before the 8 year contracts that Kane and Toews just signed are up.
5 Stanley Cups from this dynamic duo is very realistic. Of course it’s not only them… it wasn’t only MJ. The players that the Hawks surround them with is just as critical. Just as the development of Pippen, Grant, and the additions of Kukoc & Rodman, fueled the Bulls run, the Sharp, Hossa, Keith core has been important; just like the signing of Saad, Smith, and Shaw, along with the development of more home grown talent will fuel this Hawks run. The coach is pretty important too isn’t it? Phil was instrumental. Coach Q is pretty awesome too.
Are we ready for another dynasty? Heck yes! The Bulls owned this city and the NBA in the 90s. Will the Hawks own this city and the NHL in the 10s? MJ was the man. Now, we have 2 men, Toews and Kane, that have & will lead Chicago to the promised land of multiple championships. Congrats to the new Chicago’s Finest on their deals…. Thank you. Thank you for bringing joy to our city; keep it coming. We need it.
Happy Human
Never a doubt! Way to get it done and out of the way before it started getting all that media buzz. Toews and Kane for 8 more years should keep the Hawks contending and hopefully winning a few more Cups during that time. This Hawks organization has done a complete 360, which is what I believe the Cubs are in the process of doing. Congrats dynamic duo! Congrats Hawks! Congrats Chicago! Well done.

Oh man, were those the days! The 90s Bulls were the best days of my life. Things were so much easier back then. The GOAT surrounded with great talent, finally, led to that dynasty. Now, guys put on a big show during free agency…setting up multiple meetings, all the rumors, dragging out decisions, making super teams that cant even do what they proclaim. Come on now! Not sure who enjoys that, but I am reminiscing on the good ol’ days. MJ and Pip and cast destroying the league, and making the 90s Bulls the GOAT, which makes me kind of hungry right now!
