I love baseball; have I mentioned that already? Of course, the Cubs are my team; when we were able to score 2 tickets for $47 the other day, I was happy as can be. I don’t like paying a lot for tickets, which makes it pretty amazing that I go to as many games as I do… anyways. There are other options for baseball in Chicago, and no, I’m not talking about the Sox. Of course, there are the Sox, and yes, I will get to a game or two over there as well, but still another option remains. Yes, it’s the Chicago Dogs; I believe they’re part of the American Association of Professional Baseball. We’ve been there a few times; usually, we’ll take my nephew. This time was no different. 4 tickets, 10 rows off the field, for $72! Yeah buddy; we’re there.
The weather didn’t cooperate. We stopped for a quick bite before the game at Frannie’s on River Road; excellent place by the way. I parked in the middle of the parking lot, we made our way in, and we enjoyed a really good pre-game meal, topped with some shakes after we were done. Only problem was that the skies opened when we were in there… would they actually play the game? It was Elvis night, my wife loves Elvis, and fireworks, everybody loves fireworks. I checked online, no word; let’s make our way over there. As I looked at my car, I was now in the middle of a lake; there was no way to get to my car without wading through ankle high water. Oh well, wet shoes, socks, who cares; I got the car and picked up the crew. Off we go…
The start time of the game was delayed an hour; Elvis was keeping us entertained. I really like Return to Sender. This guy is good; definitely kept the crowd going. As the new game time approached, so did more rain; back to the car for the umbrellas. As the rain continued, the question about the game being played or not resurfaced. Then, they started pulling off the tarp again; it was still raining though… did they know something we didn’t, or did they just say F it, let’s give it a shot? Well, maybe a little of both, as the rain finally stopped in the first inning. Game on!
It’s always a fun time at Impact Field watching the Dogs. They ended up losing, although they did make it exciting. There was some bad calls by the ump that night, which lead to many “discussions”. There were a number of home runs, which are always fun. No foul balls unfortunately, although my son did get his hat autographed after the game by one of their players; I wonder if any of them every go pro? The crowd wasn’t that big; the weather probably scared many away. I still enjoyed the heck out of it. We’ll be heading back at some point later this summer, taking my other nephew as part of his birthday gift; I’m sure that will be fun also.
The only bad thing was that I couldn’t bet on the game… haha; just kidding. If I was able to, and IF I threw a buck on them, I would have lost anyways, so… actually, I did have a $1 bet in earlier that day on Rizzo and over 1.5 total bases. He didn’t get any hits, but walked 3 times; so I win right? No… walks don’t count; wtf?!?! You know how many times I’ve bet on total bases and I didn’t realize this? Well, now I know… See you soon Dogs!
