A tale of two teams… While the Blackhawks just lost their 6th in a row on Thursday night in Arizona, the Bulls would go for their 9th win in a row on Friday night at the UC vs the Wizards. Thank God for the Bulls. I am really liking this team; I like them more and more each game I watch them. And yes, they will have a bad game… they will lose again, but when it’s going good, it’s going good. The Bulls are not just a good team; they are a great team… a couple losses isn’t going to change that. Friday was a good example of how great of a team they are.
Balance. Depth. Unselfishness. Team Ball. Defense. Star Power. Role Players. Long Range. Mid Range. Fast Break. High Flying. Just throwing some words off the top of my head about this team. How about the #1 team in the Eastern Conference? I told my son this is now my 3rd favorite Bulls team of all time. That quick? We’re not even at the All Star break of year 1. Yeah, that quick. Of course, MJ’s Bulls can never be topped; well, never say never, right? I mean, if another Bulls team can come around and win 7 rings… How about just #7? Yeah, the one I thought my 2nd favorite Bulls team of all time was supposed to bring home after finishing the best in the East 2 straight years, before that one injury… I loved that team. Being a season ticket holder during that run made it even sweeter, seeing all those games in person… seeing that team grow and become the beasts they were. Look, I love every Bulls team, every year… at least at the start of the year. It’s been some rough years, but that’s over now. This year is going to be a good year; how good? The Bulls won 9 in a row for the first time since that 2nd favorite team back in 2011. I felt so good after Friday night’s Bulls win, I flipped on another episode of The Last Dance to see my favorite Bulls team.
Back to the UC on Friday night; Bulls tickets are hot once again… vaccination requirement or not, Omnicron (sounds like a damn transformer) or not. The UC was rocking, and rightfully so. The Bulls once again put on a great show in front of the home crowd. 6 guys in double figures. It was the usual suspects: DD with 15 in a kind of off night for him, Zach with 27, Ball with 18, and Vooch with 16. The 2 guys that impressed me the most on this evening were Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu. Did you catch that stat they showed really quick on the screen? Between those 2 guys, 14-17 from the field including 7-8 from 3 point land. A combined 39 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. My oh my.

But late in the year, there was one game against the Heat, where Coby showed me what he was all about. I’d have to pull up the blog, but he impressed me so much that night, that regardless of what happened with the rest of the roster outside of Zach and Patrick Williams, Coby needed to stay… even before Lauri…. and he did. He had a rough start to this year, being injured, seeing this team get off to a hot start, trying to find his way… Well, he’s back. I always say, if there’s a 3rd guy who we need to get their own shot off after DD and Zach, it’s Coby. He’s been getting it off lately. Then there’s the rook, whose jersey was retired on Thursday night in Champaign. I’ll always remember him getting drafted, right in the middle of the blow up of the Cubs team this past summer; what a steal! That dude is like the grease in the wheels… he does a little bit of everything, and he does it all well. Being from Chicago makes it even more sweeter. The kid can play, and while he appeared to be taking Coby’s minutes, at this point, play them both… and watch them play like they did tonight. But oh yeah, we still don’t have Caruso back… and Green is out too. Yeah, like I said, depth…
This season already feels special. I mentioned how Bulls games are events in our home, which many times consists of ordering a pizza, banging boom whackers during opposing teams’ free throws, while 3 Bulls bobbleheads watch on in front of our TV. I don’t know where this season will end up, but I’m old enough to know this: enjoy the F-ing ride! Go Bulls!!!
