January 6, 2022: Winning Now

posted in: Bulls | 0

OK Bulls fans, how we feeling? Yeah, sucks they haven’t played all week, but they’ll be back on the court Friday. Bulls sitting a top the Eastern Conference… do you think they can win it all? Going into this year, I knew they’d be better; I figured playoffs, 4-5 seed, was not unreasonable. Top seed? I didn’t expect that. But after watching the Bulls play thus far, and trying my hardest NOT to be biased (which is impossible), I think they can play with anybody. So to answer my own question, yes, I do think they can win it all. If the powers that be think that way, then it’s time to shift their entire focus to winning now; what does that mean?

Well, I think we need some help in the front court. Vooch is solid, but… after him… what other big man do we have? Tony Bradley is not there yet. This new kid Cook looks decent; I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him thus far. Will we trust him come playoff time? The guy that was supposed to fill this role, Patrick Williams, is out for the year… or so I thought? He has been hanging around a lot. Not sure if that means there is a chance he returns later this year. If he was healthy, I think our problem is solved. There is the kid Marko; has he seen the court yet? Even if he does, I don’t think that helps us. From what I’ve seen, teams that have had success against us, score lots of points in the paint. The Pacers did that; the Wizards did that. DD bailed us out both games. We need to plan to shore up the interior defense. Thinking about some of the potential playoff opponents (not too early to do that), Giannis, Embiid… what is our answer to them?

Sounds like Demarcus Cousins will become available, if he isn’t already. But why would the Bucks be cutting him? They’re heading back to the postseason to defend their crown; they don’t want him? I was never a big Cousins guy. Sure, he has skills, but… doesn’t exactly come across as a team guy; seems like he has a pretty big ego. Don’t think it would make sense to add him to this squad, which for the time being, seems egoless. The chemistry on the Bulls is great right now, from what I can tell. You got your stars playing like stars; you got guys picking up the slack when they need to. You got guys playing their roles to a tee. You got every single person on that roster fighting for playing time, which means bringing their A game each time on the court. It’s great to see; I’m rooting for all those guys. I do think we need another big though…

At some point outlines are rejected and at some point acknowledged, it’s all in the market’s viagra prescription buy surge. How do we get one? Who do we target? Who on our current roster would we want to part with? I’ve heard Coby White’s name out there. I like Coby; I think that would be a mistake… depending on who we’re talking about of course. I’m OK with shipping away draft picks, but the Bulls will not have a first round pick next year… OK, then the 2023 first round pick… haha. Certainly don’t want to gut our future, but the window has opened, earlier than I thought. That means, go for it… now. Thankfully, the guys in charge, AKME, have shown they know what the hell they’re doing, which is comforting. I believe they will continue to do what is best for this team; continue to make the right moves, press the right buttons. The roster has shaped up nicely; if Williams didn’t get hurt, maybe we wouldn’t be having this convo. If the Bulls weren’t the best team in the East almost halfway into the season, maybe we wouldn’t be having this convo. Things change… it’s a good discussion to have to have.

I’m sure we’ll see many ideas tossed around as we continue towards the All Star break. The trade deadline is a little more than a month away. I certainly don’t anticipate the Bulls to slump between now and then. There are other good teams in the East, but the Bulls are certainly in that conversation; I don’t think there is any doubting that at this point. What else can be done to give this team the best chance to bring home #7 in 2022? Stay tuned… and Go Bulls!!!
