January 6, 2015: Rocket Men

posted in: Bulls | 1

I looked forward to the match up on Monday night at the United Center.  The 23-10 Houston Rockets visited the 24-10 Chicago Bulls.  It didn’t disappoint.

There are games in a season that you’ll look back on, and this one qualifies.  Actually, these type of games are beginning to add up for the Bulls.  With each big win, this Bulls season begins to feel more and more special.  It sure felt like a playoff game… a Finals preview perhaps… this generation of Bulls taking out the Rockets who interrupted the Bulls dynasty in the 90s…  you all know if MJ was still playing, Houston would have no rings.  You all know if we meet Houston in the Finals this year, the Bulls will be raising #7.

Well, it was a fun regular season game at the very least.  The mighty Western Conference…  with all their top tier teams… come marching in here like they’re going to show us something.  Well, here’s a quick tip Western Conference, the Beast of the East is back, and taking on all comers.  Yeah, we took our lumps on the circus trip to the West Coast this year; those were some tough times, playing without a full roster every game of that road trip.  My how times have changed.  After losing their first 2 home games vs the West, an instant classic against the Mavs, and an impressive victory by the then seemingly unbeatable Warriors, the Bulls have reeled off 5 straight at home against the West, and 6 overall.  They have won 10 out of 11, and 13 out of their last 15.  We’re going streaking….

It seems the Pacific Ocean is not wide enough for some. tadalafil india cialis Remember Derrick Rose’s MVP year, and how we started chanting MVP early in the season?  We need to start chanting that again, and this time, it’s for Jimmy Butler.  Like the Bulls, each game he plays, he looks better and better.  Yes, there are off nights, but for Buckets, an “off night” offensively is usually highlighted by some big shots late, and a usual gritty, hard nosed defensive effort.  That was Jimmy G tonight.  He didn’t have his best game offensively, shooting 7 for 17, but he still poured in 22 points; I’ll take that off night every night.  They kept showing the stats and talking about his ability to get to the line, which he showed off again tonight going 6 of 7.  And when it came to answer the bell late in this one, Butler hit some big ones…. again.  Oh yeah, and how about his match up against one of the best offensive players in the game?  He stifled him; maybe the G stands for Glove.  James Harden was 7 for 22 on the night, and when Butler rejected him at the end of the first half, I was screaming at the TV; I’ve been doing that more and more watching the Bulls… the happy, pumped up variety.

Yes, there were others… Gasol with another big game, most of it in the 1st quarter to keep us in the game early.  Rose with a big 2nd quarter, and some nice passes down the stretch.  Mirotic with some nifty shots, including a big 3 late.  Noah & Taj with their heart, hustle, and muscle.  Even the captain hit some big shots.  Thibs has to be thrilled to throw out different combinations every night, at different times of the game, and see the success.  This will not only prepare each of the players for the playoffs from an experience standpoint, everybody getting more and more used to playing with each other, but it will provide some rest as well.  Taj and Kirk haven’t been playing a ton of minutes, and that’s a good thing.  Thibs knows that come playoff time, come those big moments, that he’ll be able to look down and call in a rested Taj and Kirk, who have both been through the battles the past couple years.  That’s a nice luxury to have… and I can’t wait to see it.  I can’t wait to see the culmination of the past few years of paying dues.  It’s time to collect.

I’m pumped.  Heading to the Bulls game on Wednesday night, I’ll get my 3rd look at this team in person.  I’m putting my perfect 2-0 record on the line against another Western Conference team in the Utah Jazz.  Let’s keep this train rolling boys.  Congrats on the big victory, and now back to work…. only 47 more games to go until the postseason…. and it’s going to be a good one.

Bulls are looking really good. The starting 5 is probably the best in the league to go along with one of the deepest benches, too. I see an nba title on the horizon barring any crazy injuries or problems. GO BULLS!!!
