So how do we move on quickly from another disappointing Bears finish? We focus on our other teams. On Sunday, it was a full slate of action. The Bulls and Blackhawks made me feel a lot better.
After that flub of a season finale, the attention turned to the Bulls. No, not the rest of the NFL, because who gives a rat’s ass about that. I don’t. OK, well, maybe a little bit… I will be posting some playoff picks, and will try to tune into some playoff games, but it’s not like it’s must watch TV. I’d much rather watch MY teams. So, on went the Bulls…
It didn’t start off well. The Raptors held a lead for much of the first half (and second half for that matter), and with Jimmy Butler exiting after an elbow to the face in the 2nd quarter, it appeared bleak. Well, if you haven’t heard by now, Buckets came back in the 2nd half… and when I say came back, I mean came back in a historic way. 40 second half points!!!
Any time you break a record held by Michael Jordan, you know you’re doing OK. MJ had 39 points in a half of a regular season game vs the Bucks back in 88. Jimmy now holds that record. He was hitting everything. Dunks, layups, off the glass, treys, left handed, free throws… it was phenomenal. It was one of the best individual performances I’ve seen. Besides a Ben Gordon playoff game vs Boston, and many, many MJ games, this ranks up there. He put the Bulls on his back and carried them to victory. He only missed a handful of shots down the stretch, one free throw, which would have given him 41 points in the 2nd half, and one trey that Etwuan Moore made a very nice putback on. Of course, down 2 with less than a minute, he held the ball behind the 3 point line. With a defender right in his grill, he raised up and buried it. That fist pump directly following it was awesome. And then as Toronto’s game winning attempt rimmed out, the Bulls gathered on the court in a big team huddle or hug.

It was a really nice moment… except Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah were not a part of it; a sign of things to come? They were both on the bench in street clothes and did not get there in time for the 10 second team hug. It’s nice to see Buckets playing like he is. After those ill-advised comments, the Bulls have been playing pretty damn well. Maybe that’s what this team needed? Either way, it’s nice to see him walk the walk vs just talking the talk. Butler is big time, and the Bulls are his team. Let’s keep this going boys.
Then it was time to turn on the Hawks… well, they were on next. We found a church that has mass on Sunday night. So if you miss Saturday night, and don’t get up on time for your Sunday AM mass, there is a 6:30PM Sunday mass that is right up your alley. So that’s where we were, then to a pizza place for a Sunday night dinner. They had the Hawks game on, and every time I sit down and tune in, it seems like Anisimov scores. He did again, after Keith scored in the 2nd period. Then it was Desjardins the scoring machine with an empty netter. The #1 star on this night was Crow again. His 6th shutout of the season… he’s pretty good, eh? The Hawks are tied for 2nd in the West now, as they settle in for what looks like another good 2nd half and playoff run. Repeat anybody?
So we’re lucky. The Bears are done, but we’re not.. we’re never done in Chicago. The UC boys will carry us through… at least for another 45 days… when baseball spring training begins. Like I said, we’re lucky and never done. I was happy that the Bulls and Hawks were into making Sunday better… we needed it, and they were there for us. More good times lie ahead.

Butler went off in that 2nd half. If people didnt know whose team the Bulls are, they should now. Buckets put them on his back and carried the Bulls to a victory. The Bulls have been playing better basketball and should continue to get better as the season moves along. Recognize your roll on the team drose. Everybody do your jobs and see how far you can go.
Hawks also seem to be heating up as it gets colder out. The talent is there, just a matter of getting the line combos right. Crow has been awesome so far. If he continues his great play, the Hawks should be poised to repeat!
