Let’s talk a little Bears; remember them? Yeah, another Super Bowl this coming Sunday, and our boys will be watching. Only twice in the history of the Super Bowl that was the case. It’s Super Bowl 51 by the way…not too good.
What’s the problem? There’s no better place to start than the QB position. A quick look at the recent Super Bowl winners shows why we should start here. Brady, Manning, Manning, Big Ben, Brees, and Rodgers make up for 12 of the last 15 Super Bowl winners. There was also Flacco, Wilson, and Johnson. Wilson and Johnson had phenomenal defenses. Flacco had a great postseason run that year, got his contract, and has not been very good since. Guess you can even take a shot at Eli, who out of the first group, may be a questionable HOFer. Although with 2 rings, he may get the nod.
The point is, you need to have someone really good, in most cases great, taking that snap from the center. Need more proof? Well let’s go back another 15 years right up to the last time we won. Montana, Elway, Simms, Aikman, Young, Warner, and Favre made up 11 of those 15 Super Bowl winners. Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler, and Trent Dilfer were the other 4 starting QBs. We know Hostetler and Dilfer had pretty good defenses. Williams was no slouch. Rypien is kind of the Flacco in that bunch. Ok, you get where I’m going.
Either your QB must be great, your defense must be phenomenal, or your QB has to get hot, with the far majority of those Super Bowl wins coming in that first category. The Bears defense will be better next year, but phenomenal? Maybe in a couple years? Our QB whoever it is, could get hot; that was our shot with number 6, but he got hurt instead. That leads us back to that first category.
Is that next great QB in this 2017 draft? I’m not so sure. If the Bears think he is, then get HIM at all costs. Watson maybe? Trubinsky, Kizer? Somebody else in the later rounds in our best impression of the Patriots and Brady? With the number 3 pick, it’s ashamed that there’s not a few studs coming out. Just our luck.

Maybe it’s Jimmy G from the Pats? Oh man. I’m not feeling too confident about that one. Guess there’s two sides to that argument. The first is not a big enough sample size. Even if he were to come in for an injured Brady and win the Super Bowl, it’s not enough. That would certainly make things interesting, but still. Another popular argument against him is the system. Playing for Bill with Tom, brings out his best. Can he transfer that over to another team? How did Brock work out this year? Well, his team did make the playoffs.
On the flip side, it’s more than any college QB has done at the pro level. If you’re impressed with his college resume, and with the sample size you’ve seen, then why not Jimmy G? It would be just as much of a crapshoot as anybody else in the draft.
Will there be a surprise guy? The Bears have a ton of money to spend. What if the Redskins screw up with Cousins…do we give him the mother load to come here?
The more I talk about it, unless Watson is that guy, the more I think we go defense with the first pick. One of those safeties maybe? We can continue to work on path number two to the Super Bowl, while we continue to move forward in QB hell. As long as number six isn’t here… I’m definitely ready for somebody new at that position. I thought Pace and Fox would have already unloaded that bum, like two years ago. But yeah, the money…but that’s no excuse now.
Since I’m talking football, maybe it’s time for my Super Bowl pick. I’m glad I’ll be watching. I’m glad I have a team to root for…and more than that, a team to root against. Either way, this SB winner will show us the importance of a great QB. When will we get ours?

Bears need to draft a QB and let him grow. For now if they keep stacking the D and drafting well in late rounds, they should be good with a transition QB, IE Romo, Hoyer, and or Alex Smith.
Defense does make it to Super Bowls…

Having a qb is pretty damn important. You can look at like you did as far as superbowl winners, or you can look at teams that havent won in forever because they havent had one…Bears, browns, rams. When will the Bears get their franchise qb? Will it be in this draft? Not so sure. Giraffalo might work, but are the Bears gonna pay big bucks to someone unproven? Check out how osweiler did this year with that huge signing…got benched. I think I would rather draft somebody and groom if need be. It doesnt have to be with the 3rd pick, but it better happen at some point. Let’s hope the Bears get their qb so we can get back to the playoffs and superbowl! BEAR DOWN!!!
