The newest version of the Bad Boys plays for none other than our Blackhawks. With offseason incidents, suspensions, and getting booed on All Star weekend, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are the new bad guys in town.
Not really… but it’s kind of funny. Patrick Kane could fit that bill. With the offseason from hell this summer, he’s been targets of boos throughout the first half of the season. He’s only followed that up with the best half of hockey of his career. Then, out of all places to host an All Star weekend: Nashville. I guess it could have been worse… Buffalo or Detroit or St. Louis maybe. But no, it was the city who tries to keep Blackhawks fans out of their stadium by preventing ticket purchases from Illinois zip codes. Yeah, they booed the heck out of him. It’s all good. When you’re good and your team owns the home city’s team, it comes with the territory.
And how about that rebel Jonathan Toews? God forbid he miss the All Star weekend because of the flu. Then due to NHL policy, he gets suspended for the 1st game after the break. Things that make you go hmmm. I like the concept overall… punishing people who purposely skip out on the weekend that is for the fans. There’s too much of that going on in all sports. But to miss because of an illness… and then get punished for it? Something ain’t right here. But maybe we should just say thank you… thank you for giving our Captain an extra game of rest. You know, you need all the rest you can get when you regularly play into the month of June.

So who would have thunk it? Toews and Kane… the most wanted. Ha. The bad boys that I remember the most were those Detroit Pistons. Those bastards. Yep, they’re owners of a Hate File too. Seems like we’re touching on a lot of them lately… seems like we’re ready for another. I hate, hate, hated those guys. It’s amazing I would vehemently cheer one of them on when he put on the Bulls uniform back in 1995. He actually became a fan favorite… funny how things work.
Some other bad boy combos.. the Nasty Boys… Dibble, Charlton, and Randy Myers for the Reds back in the day. Or how about the movie Bad Boys? No, not the one with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence… the one with Sean Penn, filmed in Chicago, some scenes on 18th street… a few blocks from where I grew up. Or how about Bad Boy records.. with Biggie and Puffy?
OK, so Kane and Toews aren’t exactly the baddest of boys, but when you have success… a lot of success… you tend to get some haters. Yes, it’s true… some people actually hate our Blackhawks. Hard to imagine, right? Who cares is the answer I got, because we love them and they’re ours… good boys, bad boys, our boys. Ready to start the 2nd half of the potential repeat season. Go Hawks!

i like the rule. if it hits home, oh well. but to pull-out the day before with an ‘unknown illness’, that’s the fishy part. not playing because of a known injury is still subject to the rule, and that’s the rule. if you get voted in, you should play…..simple as that!

Way too many “all stars” miss these games that are supposed to be for the fans. How many guys voted to the pro bowl this year missed? It seemed like a ton…that is just not right. The nba is the same way. Toews missing is not a big deal to me because he would have played if he could. This is a stand up guy who has played how many all star games, olympics, and countless regular and postseason games less than 100%. Missing the all star game and now one more to start the 2nd half is rest for this clutch warrior. Time for our Blackhawks to finish strong and get ready to repeat!
