January 29, 2022: No Hands

Haven’t talked about these guys in a minute, but certainly I have been watching. Yes, this week in particular has been every bit the roller coaster ride for our Bulls. The Bulls have escaped the week against inferior opponents with a 2-2 record. What should have been at the very least a 3-1 week, but could have easily been an 0-4 week. Hang on tight everybody, or better yet… no hands!!!

You can’t expect the Bulls to beat everybody they play; you would certainly hope that they can beat the teams they should. The good teams usually do, but again, not always. Thing is, nobody is telling these other teams that these are games they should lose. If they come to play, and they force the better team record wise to bring their A game, they could escape with a victory. If the Bulls don’t come into every game on top of their stuff, and if they don’t keep their foot on teams’ throats when they are up, they’re asking for it. Add in the depth that has taken a serious hit, and you have a formula for an every game adventure. Take for example the first game of the week at Orlando. This game was never really in question, as the Magic pushed us early, and opened up a double digit lead at the half. It was Demar Derozan show, with a little help from Coby. The Bulls did seem to get a little boost in the second half when a little drama between the teams unfolded, but it was pretty clear the single digit win Magic team was focused on this game. For me though, they were running their mouths a little too much; having a little too much fun at our expense. I can’t wait to play them again, and crush them.

A visit to Oklahoma City came next. Coming on the day after we got our asses kicked, certainly the Bulls would bounce back in a big way. Add in the fact that we got Lavine and Green back… oh yeah, the Thunder are in trouble. The game progressed the way we expected, with the Bulls eventually stretching out to a 20+ point lead, but… then the Bulls shut it down. A few more minutes of exerting our will would have done it, but instead, the Thunder furiously came back. With an OKC 3 pointer at the buzzer, the Bulls margin of victory was 1 point. Too close for comfort, but we’ll take it… I’m sure the Bulls ran out of that building on Monday night.

A return home was on tap next, to play the Raptors. This was supposed to be the game right before Christmas that we had tickets to; we ended up selling because the rescheduled game was on a school night. This game ended up being a little like the one against the Thunder. The Bulls had played well enough most of the game to win, building up another second half double digit lead. Yet, the Raptors never said die. It was 3 point game before Vooch hit a big 3 pointer to provide the final margin. I hate Vooch taking 3s honestly, but… he has made a couple big ones late in the game.

To end the week, the Bulls headed south to San Antonio, to play another lower tier team in the Spurs. They are a class organization though; coached by Popovich, it makes sense. The Spurs showed a DD tribute before the game, probably to soften him up… haha… It was really classy. The Spurs then took the court with a bit of inspiration. The Bulls held a halftime lead before the Spurs exploded in the 3rd. Dejounte Murray… I feel like this guy has killed us before. He was huge on this night, pretty much matching DD blow for blow. This was another example of a lesser team coming at the Bulls hard; another example of the Bulls not being able to respond. Concerning? Maybe.

It’s a long 82 game season; there will be games that we should have won that we don’t. There will be game we should have lost that we end up pulling out. Mix it all together, and hopefully you’re on the right side of the ledger more than not. Right now, the Bulls sit 1 game out of the #1 seed in the East, behind out of all teams, the Miami Heat. Next up, is a home date with the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday afternoon. This game is special because we will finally make our return to the UC to watch the Bulls play. It’s been almost 2 years… crazy. We’ll be decked out, getting there early to get our free hats. Hopefully, we can help the Bulls start THIS week off with a W.
