Who would have ever thought I’d be sitting eating breakfast in NYC bagel deli.  Well of course I’d be sitting, not standing, but in this place period. Just the fact there’s NYC in the name of a place in Chicago would normally steer me away. Don’t get me wrong, I do like New York City; it’s always a blast.  But NYC belongs in NYC, not in Chicago.

Even “Chicago” joints in other cities don’t belong. When I first moved to California, I saw this place that had Chicago on its name. It was a little fast food joint, kind of like Donald’s for those of you that know about that. I was looking forward to a combo. Man did I have a taste for a combo.  I certainly wouldn’t get the pizza…I know better than that, but thought maybe this “Chicago” place would have a good combo…kind of like Al’s or Mr. Beef or Luke’s or take your pick. It was horrible. I mean, I threw out part of it. And I never, I mean it’s pretty damn rare that I throw out any morsel of food. Chicago?  My ass.

Don’t give me that. Maxwell Street is another term thrown around a lot.  Those depots are ok for a late night stop, but there’s only one Maxwell Street right?  It’s a good idea to claim it…one of those unique Chicago spots, but I don’t think I’m going to get a Maxwell Street polish anywhere but Maxwell Street.

Back to the deli, and some rare free moments for me, the sandwich was good. It was the closest place to the oil change joint, so we tried it out. Very good. Funny enough, they’re an official sponsor of the Chicago Cubs. What do you have to pay or do to say that?  Can you get in trouble for claiming that?  If I said this was the official Chicago Cubs blog, would they come after me?  Well, people have to read it first right? Ouch!

Not many free moments nowadays.  Between work, blog, family…and not in that order…but it certainly seems like that sometimes.  I rationalize that it’s all done for the family, and it is, but still… I keep a fortune from a fortune cookie of course, on my desk at work to remind me of that.  Family comes first…along those lines.

It all blends together pretty well, as long as I can get some amount of sleep. Work’s been crazy, but it’s got to…it’s going to get better. Definitely shooting for that.  Had a Chicago sports moment at work the other day…

Getting a security badge for somebody, started talking Bears with this officer. I asked if he liked all the teams, figuring I’d plug the blog. He said, well all you got is the Sox, Bears, Bulls, Fire…I said what about Hawks…knowing Cubs was definitely not on his list.  So the Cubs Sox talk began…

I probably shouldn’t have went down this path with this guy who may not let me into the building one day, but I did.  He said how Wrigley Field is a dump, even though he’s never stepped foot in there.  He said parking was better around Sox park not knowing there’s a ton of free parking for Cubs day games. Not knowing that I’m not like him…I go to Sox games…I know how bad the parking is now with all that permit stuff, having to go south of Pershing or across the Dan Ryan or west of Halsted or north of 31st to get anything. Not knowing that I was at the first game ever in the Cell, which was a dump that they’ve fixed up nicely now.  He bragged about tailgating, and I told him that wasn’t the best idea considering umpire safety…always a good shot to take. At the end of it, I told him stop hating…you got your title already, and then I dropped the mic…I mean, walked out of the office.

Nothing like a little Cubs Sox banter to get the juices flowing. Baseball is about a month away and I can’t wait.  This is the first time I can think of going into a season the Cubs were favored to win it all. Is that a good thing?  Well, it certainly can’t be bad. Baseball can’t come soon enough.

Cant believe baseball is right around the corner, and the Cubs will be the favorites to win it all. I sure hope they live up to expectations, have no sophomore slumps, and win the whole damn thing! #2016WorldChampChicagoCubs
