January 25, 2022: Ryan Again

While I think about the next additions to my all time NFL team, it’s time to jump in and talk some Bears. The Bears hired another Ryan to be their GM. This time, it’s Ryan Poles, ex-Bear no less, whose biggest claim to fame on his resume is the building of the current Chiefs team. First off, Ryan again? We just got rid of one. Secondly, didn’t Matt Nagy come from the Chiefs? OK, certainly not going to be negative this early on, especially because of some dumb reasons… haha. We’ll give him a couple years before we start trashing his ass; everybody deserves a chance, right?

I will say this about the Bears. At least they didn’t hire the coach before the GM; that would have been stupid. Just the fact that they hired the GM first, is a step in the right direction; I know, the bar is low. I don’t care that they interviewed a ton of people for this and the head coaching position; that’s a good thing IMO. Better than getting tunnel vision like the previous Ryan not even calling in Watson or Mahomes for good looks. This Ryan’s first task will be to get a head coach. He should be the primary decision maker there. If he’s the guy we picked, then he’s the guy we have to trust. Like I said, give him a couple years… hopefully it will be less.

By less, I mean, I want the Bears back in the playoffs next year! Man, after watching this weekend of football, I just kept thinking… I can’t wait until the Bears are involved with games like this again. That Saints Wild Card game barely counts to be honest with you; before that was the DD game. Before that was 2010 when we lost to a certain team from the north in the NFC Championship. Yeah, I know we beat Seattle before that game, but… not exactly the greatest playoff memories from the past 15 years or so… Meanwhile, the team this dude built, is one step from being back in the Super Bowl for the 3rd straight season; must be nice… that would be 1 more Super Bowl appearance than we’ve had since the whole thing started. Change was definitely needed.

But will it be change, or will it be more of the same? One thing that is different at this starting point than others is the presence of QB Justin Fields. Most of us still believe he can be something, and if you have a QB that is something, that’s half the fricking battle to be honest with you. Does Ryan Poles believe Fields can be something? If he didn’t, would he have taken the job? He has to believe in Fields now, even if he didn’t before he took the job… or would he dare trade him, like I saw some folks floating around the social media toxic wasteland. To start off with the question of “who will be our QB?” answered, I feel like things should be easier. Where do we go from here?

Well, modeling this offense around Fields, both with coaching and personnel, is the way to go IMO. Of course, we can’t totally forget about our defense, but adding on the offensive side of the ball, WR, OL, should be top priority. First thing’s first: hire a head coach. That will be the next time I return to talk Bears. Good luck Ryan, and welcome to Chicago… Bear Down!
