January 25, 2015: Two Steps Forward One Step Back

The Bulls continued their up and down season.  They impressively spanked the Spurs at home, then went on to get a nice win in Dallas.  Returning home for a noon tip on Sunday, they welcomed in a very average Miami Heat team.  Yep, another lower caliber team got the best of the Bulls on their home court.  What gives?

I think the Bulls are shooting way too many outside shots.  This is lazy basketball.  When Gasol stands out there and starts firing jumpers, I have flashbacks of Carlos Boozer.  Every time Derrick Rose raises up for an ill-advised 3 pointer, I wonder why… I wonder why Thibs doesn’t fine him for every 3 pointer he takes.  Why do we fall in love with the 3 pointer?  The Bulls are becoming more and more of a 3 point shooting team it seems…

On Sunday, the Bulls shot 7 for 24 from 3 point land, which isn’t horrible.  On the other side of the court, the Heat shot a horrific 1 for 13 from long distance… yet still won the game.  They won the game by playing better defense, which made up for their poor shooting percentage.  This has been the Bulls winning formula in the past.

To live and die by the 3 pointer is not a good way to go.  24 three point attempts seems like too much.  They’re averaging over 21 per game this year, which is up 18% from last year.  I really don’t think this is the way to go.  You have to pound that rock inside, and let that be your calling card.  The open three point shots that come because of that, will be the ones we should be taking.

Individuals with a borderline personality disorder have significant issues with attachment. india cheap cialis Although this all may be true, I’m kinda sick of the Bulls getting grilled each time they lose a game.  What happened?  Why can’t you guys win every game?  Losses are going to happen.  When you run into a shot blocking machine and get stuck taking 24 three pointers it’s going to happen.  Jimmy Butler has come down to earth.  Noah is still not playing at a high level… and on, and on, and on…

The Bulls will be OK.  I’ll take 2 out of 3 every time.  I’ll take 2 out of 3 on this next West Coast swing, which includes stops in Golden State, LA, and Phoenix.  Guess which one the Bulls will lose?  The way it’s been going, I’d say the Lakers.

The Bulls still sit in 4th place in the East, which would land them a 1st round matchup with Cleveland if the playoffs started today.  Imagine that.  It’s going to be interesting to see how the playoffs seeds play out, but we know this for sure:  that it won’t be easy.

Let’s keep taking those 2 steps forward and 1 step back.  Over an entire season, 55 and 27 would be the record, and that’s good enough for a solid playoff seed.  Not the #1 the Bulls are used to aiming for, but as we’ve discussed, there are more important things then that.  Playing on the road may suit us this year in the playoffs…  Off to the West Coast!
