January 23, 2015: Foundation Set

posted in: Bears | 1

It’s been quick.  It has been done well.  The much maligned McCaskey family and CEO Ted Phillips have moved quickly after one of the worst seasons in Bears history to assemble an impressive foundation.  Now the real work begins…

How much of an impact did Ernie Accorsi have in this process?  Judging by the results, I think he had a lot.  George and Ted couldn’t have done this well all by themselves, right?  Maybe they finally did the right thing, and let someone with football knowledge make the important decisions.  Maybe they finally got it right.  Now, they’ll have to spend some money to help make this turnaround happen sooner than later.

The hiring of Ryan Pace was a good one.  How good?  Well, the jury is still out, but if at THAT point, the decisions were made by Pace, the initial reviews are good.  The pick of John Fox as head coach was a fabulous one.  You’d hope that Pace had the final call on that one.  It wasn’t that hard a decision to make; it kind of fell in his lap.  With the Accorsi and Sean Payton connections, John Fox seemed like a slam dunk… and it was.  Can’t fault Ryan Pace for that… can only applaud him for not blowing the layup.

Next, came the coaching staff.  Again, my assumption would be Pace and Fox made these decisions together.  Who wil have more pull going forward?  Will they be on the same page?  I like the pages that I’ve seen so far.  The hiring of special teams coach Jeff Rodgers was good.  The hiring of ANY special teams coach over what we had would have been good.  Mr. Rogers would have been better than ole’ Joe; although he did find a landing spot in Denver.  Think we got the upper hand in that “trade” Broncos…

They were put in place at the right time…More on this later. unica-web.com generic cialis prices -These two things were: Consumers were told that through ‘scientific evidence’ it was found that low saturated fat and low cholesterol in the diet would reduce heart disease. Next came the defensive coordinator.  The choice was Vic Fangio.  I am extremely happy with that choice.  It wouldn’t have taken much to improve upon our previous DC.  Tucker was one of the biggest problems on the Bears last year.  Even with the injuries and apparent lack of personnel, I can’t believe we were THAT bad on defense.  That is going to change this year.  Yes, we need some more talent, but even with the same exact talent on the field, I can guarantee an improvement.  The question will be 4-3 or 3-4.  Of course, I love the 4-3, but a Bears 3-4 defense would be different, and exciting.  It’s pretty much a clean slate to work with Vic; create your masterpiece.

That brings us to the offense, and new OC Adam Gase; another pretty good choice… I think.  Well, it’s hard to give him 100% credit for his recent successes due to the QB at the helm in Denver, but… even he has praised him, and recommended him for the head coaching vacancies.  He didn’t get any of them… which means….  maybe he’s not ready yet.  So, he now joins the Bears.  Another young mind in the foundation is good.  Actually, between the GM, HC, and coordinator positions, there is a nice mix of experienced guys and young, fresh minded guys.  This could work…

This could work IF….  there’s still a problem.  We still have the Coach Killer waiting… waiting for the next staff to sink his teeth into.  Waiting for the next staff to blame for his ineptness.  IF we keep this guy, which is contrary to what I would like to see happen, he needs to be managed properly.  He isn’t any different than anybody else… period.  Here’s a 5 win QB… treat him accordingly, regardless of the dollars he’s banking.  Put your foot down.  You run the show… not him.  He runs the offense that YOU dictate to him.  And just maybe… and believe me this is a BIG maybe, he gets better too.

So as Super Bowl Sunday approaches, I’m liking the direction the Bears are heading.  I like the actions being taken.  I believe this ship can be righted sooner than later.  The foundation is set; now it’s time to build upon it…

Love all the coaching staff hires. There is too much talent on this Bears team. Yes, they need more in certain places, but by no means are the Bears rebuilding. The players need guys to respect and listen to. Fox and gang should be the right crew. They should be able to reign in and control jay, assuming he stays. Yes, he makes a lot of money, but that decision is done and over with. He needs to be controlled, coached, and choked if need be. Keep his ass in line along with everyone else! The Bears offseason has been great so far. Keep that momentum going into the draft and free agency! BEAR DOWN!!!
