Now that the Bears season is over, the Bears gear goes into storage. I’m talking specifically about the winter gear…ski caps, scarf, gloves…I won’t wear my jerseys any more either. I’ll still wear tshirts and sweatpants, but my Blackhawks and Bulls gear take over, specifically the ski caps.
It’s a critical piece of clothing for this bald man. Need to keep that dome warm. Which hat to choose? I rotate. Blackhawks was up first. I thought I had lost it…
Leaving work on this Friday, I reached into my pocket, and it was gone. I retraced my steps back to my office, with no success. Maybe I dropped it in the elevator? How would I do this? Keep pressing down until I get mine? Am I even sure which one I just took down? Screw it. One more check at the security desk where I asked if they had any lost and found. As she fiddled around, I wasn’t optimistic. Then she held up that red Blackhawks hat. Yes! Let the weekend begin.
Friday night was a bust for our teams though. Bulls, Hawks both lost. I was watching the Bulls when I flipped on the Hawks…4-0?!? Whoa. Bulls weren’t much better. They made a run late, but came up short. This Bulls season has been tough.
One bright spot for sure is Jimmy Buckets. He did not get selected as a starter in the all star game; my wife said this was bull. It is. It’s a popularity contest, and honestly, Buckets may still be flying slightly under the radar nationally. Just my thought. Kind of like Corey Crawford.

On the broadcast the other night, even Eddie O said Corey should be getting that top 5 goalie recognition. He’s definitely underrated. Heck, in our own city, as recent as last year, there were still questions and criticism of the man…including yours truly. Nationally, you think Blackhawks, you think Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith. Crawford is an afterthought. He shouldn’t be any more. Does he need to win his 3rd Cup?
Then you have Derrick Rose. He’s almost like a Jay Cutler figure if you know what I mean. I’ll get into this in depth another day, but for now, just a snippet of my philosophy. Both of those guys had sky high expectations and both of them have failed to live up to them. It’s our fault. The expectations. The pedestals we put our heroes on. The heroes that we’ve had…the ones to measure up to. Maybe it’s all just not fair.
More to come on that and more as we roll along with the good ol blog and website. A special shoutout to the #1 commenter who is on a streak of his own…stay with me brother, and happy birthday. Thanks for the support.

Thanks for the bday shoutout! I have been on a roll commenting and love reading the blog.
Jerseys and shirts definitely get put on the bench once Bears season is over. Just sweats and sweatshirts are still used.
2 game slide for the Bhawks after 12 in a row…to be expected I guess. It is not easy to stay that hot for so long. If it was, it would be done all the time. Nothing to worry about, with Crow playing like he has, the Hawks have to be the choice to repeat. Talk about some expectations!
Meanwhile, the Bulls continue to sleepwalk through the season. Play at a high level some nights and others like a team in a cellar. Get it together Bulls and go on a double digit win streak yourselves. The cavs are not that good…more to come I’m sure…
