Can we call him Big Ben? Definitely NOT talking about Roethlisberger… How about Benny Blanco from the Bronx? Don’t think he’s from the Bronx. How about BJ? Well… I’m sure we’ll figure out something. For now, we’ll just call him the new head coach of the Chicago Bears. Welcome to Chicago Ben Johnson.
We got our guy, right? I’m happy. Considering all the candidates that the Bears interviewed for this position, and there were a lot… and considering Mike Vrabel went back to New England, as was expected, this was far and away the #1 candidate that I wanted; whether or not I’m right about this wish… well, time will tell; the clock has started ticking… a few weeks earlier than we thought.
Kind of a shitty way to leave his previous job, getting upset in the divisional round of the playoffs; certainly thought we wouldn’t find out if he was coming here until after the Super Bowl. What happened in that game and how much can you put on Ben Johnson? I’m sure there are plenty of opinions; I saw stuff I loved, and then there was some stuff that wasn’t great. Looking at his entire body of work, well, hard to argue against that. Although, having one of the best offensive lines in the league certainly helps make an OC’s job easier; assuming this will be the next thing the Bears will be focusing on, among other things…
The two most important things to build a successful franchise/team are… the QB and… the head coach? If you are of the opinion that the Bears got it right with Caleb Williams, in spite of all the Jayden Daniels praise, which is the belief that I have… and if you are of the opinion that the Bears got it right with Ben Johnson, of course he hasn’t coached one game yet, but knowing what we know about him… well, then, I feel some hope; there is certainly some promise looking ahead for our team. Of course, I’m always hopeful; the start of every new season brings promise IMO, like say for example, this past year… starting 4-2; we know how that turned out… and the year before, and the year before that. It feels like we’ve been in this vicious cycle… get our hopes up, then get smacked down… year after year after year. Are we in jeopardy of breaking out of this cycle? Talk to me.
How about the Bears paying for the guy many “experts” think is the best guy out there? Color me shocked. And, and… hold on; we’re going to pay some serious money for a defensive coordinator too? No fricking way. The Bears bank account holders are finally freeing up the funds to do this the right way, and not head to Five Below for our coaching candidate? You know, you get what you pay for… most of the time. Surely the Bears passing out dollars is no guarantee, but it feels good to know, that they actually put some financial investment in this position, and appear to be planning to do the same for his staff. Baby steps guys.
I wouldn’t exactly call this hiring a “baby step”; this is a big day for the Bears franchise. How big? Talk to me in a couple years. I’m excited (again). I’m back on the hook. I feel like we have our QB, and now, we have our coach; there is NOTHING standing in our way (besides an offensive line). Super Bowl Bears here we come! Haha… Hey, let’s enjoy our moment 8 months before the season starts; let’s have fun talking about what could be. Let’s embrace the hope. Bear Down!!!
