January 2, 2024: One To Go

The big Bowl day was here. On January 1st, the last 5 scheduled games happened, with of course one to go… on January 8th, for all the marbles. This was the closest I followed Bowl season since I was a kid; amazing what a little money on some of these games will do.

I went Big 10 heavy, which is typically a stupid proposition. The Big 10, which is the conference I have followed the closest since forever, is typically overrated, especially in the past number of years. This has shown up in their performances in bowl games; 3 big ten teams were in action on this final day. Wisconsin came through like champs, covering that number against LSU. Everybody and their mama was on LSU, so in turn, I was on the Badgers; thank you Wisconsin. I can’t say the same for Iowa. What a shitshow. 35-0 was the final when Tennessee finishing whipping the Hawkeyes’ ass. In the big game of the day, or one of the big games, Michigan beat Alabama in OT. Yes sir, I was on the Wolverines. It ended up being a toss up, and I happened to be on the right side; thank you! It was a good, close game, that came down to the wire. No clue what the last play call by Bama was, but I don’t care. The Wolverines are moving on to the Championship Game.

In the other 2 non-Big 10 bowl games, I split. I was on Liberty, like an idiot. Oregon crushed them 45-6. I got caught up in the whole undefeated/something to play for thing vs the consolation/how do I get up for this one bowl strategy. Oh well… my biggest bet of the day was on the Huskies, and they came through like champs. I had them with the points, straight up, and +700 to win the national championship; 2 out of 3 of those cashed on Monday night. The only one to go is to win the game vs Michigan next Monday; I already took the points in that one too. I think Washington has the best team in the country; I didn’t always think that. I actually thought Oregon was that team, but when Washington beat them twice… I guess that proved it to me. The first one may have been a little fluky, but the 2nd meeting… was a beat down, and it wasn’t even that close. The Huskies are undefeated btw… just like the Wolverines. But when you look at strength of schedule/conference… not close. Let’s see if that holds up.

It’s a bit sad though, the end of another college football season. Looking forward to a great championship game. My son is all about Washington, because of their lefty QB Penix, who by the way, has been criminally underrated this year. Hope he and the Huskies close the deal. Let’s go!!!
