January 19, 2023: Parlez Vous Francais?

Parlez Vous Francais? Do you speak French? Yeah, I know a little; I took 4 years of it in High School… lot of good that did me on one of my honeymoon stops in Paris almost 20 years later. I knew the bare minimum. I always think, if I would have taken Spanish in High School… I’d probably be fluent at this point. Many more opportunities to use that language in Chicago, especially growing up where I grew up; would be helpful with my wife’s family also. Still, I probably know more Spanish than French. Back in the day, working at an Italian restaurant… I used to teach one of the dishwashers English, and he’d teach me Spanish; it was a nice deal. But yeah, as far as my French… comme ci, comme ca…

Of course, this is on my mind because of the Bulls trip over the pond. They played the Pistons on Wednesday in Paris, France. It was 26 years or so ago when the Bulls were last out there; this whole experience played out in one of The Last Dance episodes. It’s just one example, of how popular Michael Jordan was; everyone around the world knew him, and because of that, knew of the Chicago Bulls. I guess that’s one reason the NBA decided to send us over there; not sure why they sent the Pistons… Even all these years later, everybody remembers the Bulls. Thankfully, these Bulls didn’t embarrass us; they finally took care of business and took care of a shitty team. Detroit did make a run in the 2nd half, but the Bulls opened it back up. It was refreshing to see; maybe they can play more games in France…

I really liked Paris; we walked all over that city. The Eiffel Tower is the big tourist attraction of course, but let me tell you: it’s the real deal, especially at night. We drove past there in a taxi, or maybe shuttle, on our way to the Moulin Rouge, and it was all lit up, and sparkling… man, that was something. I loved everybody sitting in the cafes, with their wine and cigarettes, in the middle of the day… just watching the world pass by. Everyone is always such in a rush; I’m guilty of it too. We need to take a step back, and enjoy whatever your wine and cigarettes are. There are even some European countries that take regular naps; imagine that! Whenever I get a nap, it’s usually because of a complete exhaustion; I love it. I WOULD do it daily if possible. I guess I could close my door in my office, but I’d have to lay on my desk… I could do it.

The Bulls will be on their way back over to the good old US of A, and resume their schedule on Monday at home vs the Hawks. Hopefully this trip will bring the team closer together; hopefully this victory over the lowly Pistons about four thousand miles away will springboard us into the next portion of the season. That would be tres bien…
