January 19, 2021: Any Time At All

Damn… that was close. I just knew they would get their first win of the season on Tuesday night in Florida. After seeing that the game went to OT, I rushed back in front of the TV, just in time to see the Panthers score the game winner. Damn, damn. Well, look on the bright side; the Blackhawks got their first point of the year.

Yeah, 1 point in 4 games…extrapolate that out. 56 games this year… divided by 4 is 16… 1 point every 4 games comes out to 16 total points for the year. Ugh! I knew we were in for a rough season; I don’t think it will be that bad though. The Hawks will get their first win any time at all. In fact, I think that’ll happen the next time they take the ice, the first time at the UC this year, against a team that we were supposed to be better than: none other than the Detroit Red Wings. That’ll be Friday, and at the very least, it will be good to be out of the state of Florida.

In 4 games, we’ve seen 3 goalies. If anything can be said, is that they’ve been consistent; the Hawks have given up 5 goals in each of the first 4 games. Knowing how our offense operates, this is not going to be good enough. As typical with the Hawks, the goalies should not be blamed entirely for these goals against. Our defense has certainly contributed to this result. And yes, although goalies have each made some great saves, there are certainly ones each of them would like to have back. Who will be the next stop on this goalie carousel?

It has been different watching the Hawks so far this year; I’ve talked about it. You know, the whole “expecting not to win” thing. It makes watching games a lot less stressful if you’re not expecting the end result to be a win. If you are expecting the Hawks to win a lot this year, I hate to break it to you, but you are going to be disappointed more times than not. I’m not saying you, or we for that matter, should accept these results… and be happy with them. I’m just giving you the realistic version, even out of these most positive die-hard fan’s glasses. The Hawks are going to be bad this year. Not 1 point in 4 games bad, but definitely on the outside looking in of the playoffs bad; probably looking for a top draft pick bad. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop watching… Like I said, I’m going to enjoy watching my team skate; I’m going to continue to cheer them on. I’ll be excited for every point that is earned, while not being so disappointed for every game that results in none. We’ll see how long that lasts… Hoping to see that first win on Friday night. Go Hawks!
