January 17, 2024: Divisional Time

OK, time to take a peek at the NFL divisional round. Follow me as I ramble along through each matchup.

Texans at Ravens will begin the weekend. The Ravens are the #1 seed in the AFC; they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong over the past 2 weeks, because, duh, they haven’t played. They’ve even improved their chances by activating Mark Andrews for the game. Not sure how close to normal he’ll be, but that has to be a pleasant surprise for Raven fans. On the other side, Texans stock is soaring after how they crushed the Browns in the Wild Card round. Do they have a chance to knock out Baltimore? Any team can win at any given time, so yeah, but really? We’ve heard about everybody having to go through Baltimore, and how tough that will be, well… They won the Super Bowl 12 years ago. Since then, they’re 2-5 in the playoffs, including 0-2 at home! The Texans? Never been past this round in their franchise history. 0-4 all time in the Divisional Round. Moving right along…

Packers at Niners… yeah, Green Bay is still around after looking like a Super Bowl team beating up on the pathetic, perennial regular season champs and Super Bowl Favorite Dallas Cowboys. What a shit show in Dallas… good! How good are the Packers? They’ve already exceeded any and all expectations this year; they’re playing with house money, which makes them dangerous… and makes me nervous. Again, the Niners haven’t played yet, so the Packers rising stock is even more in focus. I’ve thought all year the Niners had the best squad, regardless of what happened on Christmas vs the Ravens; for the record, I’d take the Niners all day every day in a Super Bowl rematch vs them. But first, the #1 seeds need to get past this weekend. Will the Niners come up big for us Bears fans again and wipe the field with the Packers on Saturday night? Here’s hoping.

Bucs at Lions. If there is any uncertainty with the #1 seeds on Saturday, I don’t feel that for Detroit on Sunday; maybe that’s a bad sign. Just like I thought Frisco was the best team all year, I thought the Lions were the 2nd best team in the NFC… right there with the Eagles and Cowboys, who will both be watching this weekend from Cancun. They’ve got something going over there; not sure if they’re going to cover those 6 points, which is a conversation for another day, but I’m feeling pretty good about them dismissing Tampa Bay. No offense, but the Eagles were DOA on Monday night; I’m just pissed I didn’t bet on that game…

Chiefs at Bills. The heavyweight matchup of the weekend. I was shocked this was Mahomes’ first road playoff game. All that home cooking in Kansas City… The zebras better give that same home cooking to the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday night. No funny shit in favor of the Chiefs, OK, and their endless string of commercials with their #1 supporter Taylor Swift. How sick are you of the Chiefs? Out of the 8 teams remaining, besides obviously the Packers, this is the team I’d like to win it all the least. So, come on Buffalo… you got them at home finally; it’s now or never…

OK, there’s a quick NFL brain dump. Much more to read and listen to between now and then; going to chat with some folks too. Will be posting all my picks before the games start on Saturday. Can’t wait for another big NFL weekend.
