January 15, 2024: Back On Our Path

Full slate of basketball games on MLK day included the Bulls. Now that everybody has taken our shots at us for booing Krause’s widow, wait, is there anybody else who wants to run their mouth about something they don’t know? Sure, throw up an old lady on the TV that 20,000 booing fans made cry, and yeah, you’ll get some sympathy. Who wouldn’t feel bad about this “incident”? But just remember, it’s the Bulls fault, not the fans… remember that. OK, I’m moving on… everybody else should too. Or maybe we should keep talking about this, because on the court, we’re back on our path…

The path for the Bulls, of course, is the play-in game. We are virtually a lock for the 9/10 seed pending deadline moves for the teams around us. What a thrill! The boost that we got with Zach being “hurt” is gone. Zach is back, and so are the Bulls… back to being crap. It’s not a direct shot at Zach necessarily; he’s taken his share of shots, but while we’re talking about him… Zach looks like he’s actively trying to control his black hole syndrome. He’s trying to move the ball around, maybe too much now. Is there any way to get to a happy medium here? When late in the 4th quarter against Cleveland, after coming back from the huge hole we dug, Lavine had a chance to take a three; he passed it up, gave it to Vooch, who took a three. Not sure if someone needs to explain this to Zach, but… we’d much rather Zach taking a trey vs Vooch taking a trey, especially in that spot. It feels like Zach has moved all the way to the other side, either to prove a point, be a dick, or maybe, maybe he’s just trying to make it work. I don’t think Zach is a bad guy; his comments about Chicago and the Bulls sound authentic, but… in the meantime, he and his bang-up agency Clutch Sports is working on a deal to get him out of here; it’s the worst kept secret in town. Problem is, nobody wants him… Somebody will want him; somebody will get him. In waiting for those pending deadline moves, the Bulls will most certainly be a part of that. Maybe there will be more than just Zach on the move… maybe there should be.

What about DeRozan? Hey, when he came to the Bulls, I fell in love with him. Great player, great teammate who held that #1 spot on the Bulls instead of Lavine during that first year. The 2nd year he wasn’t as good; he was still solid, but he dropped down to the 2 spot, and since Zach hasn’t taken control of the 1 spot, that’s a problem. This problem still exists. DeRozan is certainly on the decline. He has some gas left in the tank; we’ve seen that, but it’s just not enough. Since we will not be resigning him, I’m sure a team looking for a solid veteran presence would be interested; it will be sad to see him go. Caruso… man, I love him, but… if there is anyone that will demand some valuable assets in return, it’s Alex. Hard to see us keeping him.

Damn, this is a pretty disappointing read… so you’re telling me that post-deadline the Bulls will be down 3 of their current players, and may potentially miss the play-in game? The first part is true, but the hope is the return will enable us to keep plodding along and sneak into that play-in-game… really big goals here. We’ll get back to that quest for #7, you know, the title we’re still waiting for once the dynasty was broken up by… forget it. But yeah, AKME has got some work to do. Patiently waiting… it’s only been 26 years… Go Bulls.
