January 14, 2022: Just When You Thought They Were Out

I don’t know about you, but when the Blackhawks lost to the pitiful Coyotes back on January 6th to top off a 6 game losing streak, I thought we were done. Just when you thought they were out… the Blackhawks go ahead and surprise Las Vegas. Then, they beat Columbus for the first consecutive win all season. Then, then… they beat the Canadiens on Thursday night at the UC! Their first winning streak of the season currently sits at 3 games. Have they finally turned the corner?

Well, not so sure I’m going there yet, but… a winning streak?!?! Yeah, it has to start with that; there have to be many of them, or a couple really long ones to really be back. It’s not totally impossible though. After all, the Hawks have only played 37 games thus far… not even halfway through the season. Sure, they are only 2 teams worse than them in the West, but only 8 points out of a wild card spot with 45 games to go… there’s definitely time. Still not sure if we got what it takes though…

DeBrincat has what it takes; he made the NHL All Star team! Congrats Brinksy Cat. He definitely deserves it. I told my son he was in; he was happy, but the next question he asked was Kane in. The answer to that is NO, for the first time since 2008, before my son was born. That’s crazy to think about. I guess all good things come to an end. One thing that I do NOT want to come to an end is our broadcasting team of Pat and Eddie; man, have I missed them. With the other guys they’ve been auditioning, it just shows how lucky we’ve been. It makes a difference. Nothing necessarily against the new guys; like anything else, have to give them a chance, but… they are nothing compared to our long time broadcasting duo. Over time, maybe they, or someone else will be good, but right now, Hawks hockey just isn’t the same without them. It was great to hear them back on the call.

It was good to see Andrew Shaw get honored on Thursday night; it’s always good to see any old players back on the ice, especially guys from the Stanley Cup teams. I saw some folks asking about nights for other players. If Shaw can get a night, then so and so should have one too; I agree! Nothing against Shaw; he certainly had a memorable run here… winning Cups helps no doubt. But yes, there are plenty of other deserving guys; I’m sure those guys will get their turn. I don’t think anybody is in the “Sammy Sosa not welcomed back” category, are they? That’s BS by the way too…

Good to see the boys pick themselves up, and string together a few good games. Sure, Montreal may be horrible, but Columbus is no slouch, and Vegas… they’re in first place in their division! They’ll face the 2nd place team in that Pacific division when the Ducks visit the UC on Saturday night. Let’s see how far they’ve really come… let’s see how long this first winning streak of the season lasts. Let’s do it; Go Hawks!!!
