OK, so we’re not exactly at the half way point of the season, but after games this week against Washington and Boston, the Bulls will have played 41 games.  Currently sitting at 26-13 and the #3 seed in the East, they are losers of 3 of the past 4 games, and seem to be playing down to their level of competition, especially at home.  Should we be worried?

Well, I’m not.  It’s a long season, and there will be ups and downs, unless of course you win 72 games like the 95-96 Bulls; very few downs that season.  Typically, good teams will lose about a quarter of their games.  So, the inevitable slump will hit every team at some point in the season.  Why against bad teams?  Why at home?  Why are the Bulls giving up some many points?  What happened to the Bulls defense?  Yet, we still have to listen to all of these questions…

I do have a little bit of concern, but then I quickly put it behind me.  First reason for that, is Thibs.  He kind of went off after the most recent loss.  The Magicians certainly lived up to their name in this one, hitting almost 60% of their shots… although the Bulls defense helped out with that.  Thibs will NOT let this team lose focus for long periods of time, and as the season gets closer to the end, and the most important games of the season, he will have them razor sharp.  Let’s remember, this is a Bulls team that is one of, if not THE, hardest playing team in the NBA.  This has been their rep the past few seasons.  Even with their best player sidelined, and limited superstar talent on the court, this team played its heart out.  That just doesn’t go away.  Maybe it’s an adjustment playing with all of this talent, especially on the offensive end.  This still doesn’t change this team’s DNA.  It’s still there… it’s just been on a little vacation lately.

Hey, at least it’s not like Lebron’s little vacation he’s taking.  Can you believe this guy?  Sitting out a few weeks because he’s sore.  Hey boss, I’m not going to make it into work today because my back is sore.  I couldn’t say that, and I work 250 days a year… and I don’t get paid millions of bucks… and I’m not the BEST player in the league.  He complains about an 82 game season…  really?  This guy is weak.  What kind of example are you setting for the rest of the league?  What kind of example are you setting for all your young fans?  Oh yeah, and he’s “rehabbing” in Miami… and attended the National Championship game.  Just another example of what a chump this guy is…. sorry, had to take my Lebron shot.  It’s been a whlie.

The Bulls ARE on the court almost every game.  Yes, they get a game here and there, which based on the injury history of the players involved makes sense, but we’re out there NOT taking for granted the 82 game regular season.  And people want to complain about the minutes Thibs plays these guys… Yes, he has been doing a better job this year, and I believe he will continue to do so, as he gets to “play with all his new toys”.  Still, I don’t think he should do it to that point where guys are sitting out every other game, or limiting minutes to the point where we’re sacrificing regular season wins, and he won’t… and that’s OK.  Keep experiementing with the rotation.  Keep trying different combinations at different times of the game.  This will all be good in the long run.

I have a feeling the Bulls will come out with a bit more energy tonight against the Wizards, and hopefully maintain it to beat the Celtics who always seem to give us tough games.  But, there is no rest…  As we start the 2nd half of the season, we will be facing the Eastern Conference leading Atlanta Hawks.  It doesn’t stop.  Teams will continue to play their hardest against the Bulls, one of the best teams in the league.  We need to respond with the same effort, and we will.  Let’s see how they fare this week, and then let’s talk.  I’m fine with the current view.  I have a feeling they’ll be right back on track, as we look forward to the 2nd half of the season and beyond…
