January 13, 2025: Closing the Books

As the clock ticked down in the Philly Green Bay game, I was very happy. It was already a great weekend, but now… it was just about perfect. With the Packers eliminated from contention, it’s officially time to close the books on the NFL season.

It’s a two-part closing every season. The first part is when the Bears have played their last game of the season; the second part is when the Packers played their last game of the season. Unfortunately for us, the part we typically have to wait for is the Packers losing, because the Bears are already on vacation; when will this change? The nice thing about this year’s closing, well, there’s a couple nice things…

First off, the Bears beat the Packers in their final game of the year. How sweet was that? Not only did we win the game, but we ensured that Green Bay would go to Philly to meet their maker in the first round of the playoffs. Caleb is undefeated in Lambeau. The Bears are undefeated in 2025. The Packers, well, they are winless in 2025. After the Bears snuffed them in Green Bay, they got their asses kicked in Philly; how sweet it is! Yeah, we didn’t have to wait very long for the 2nd part of the closing; first round knock out… bam! How are Packer fans feeling about Jordan Love right about now? You got excuses about his hand, or WR injuries, or some other BS? Fact is, he had one really good half of a season, and the Packers paid him like a perennial all-pro. Dumb ass bastards. For a team to have back to back HOF QBs, they should be counting their lucky stars; besides Montana to Young, when else has that occurred for any franchise in the past half a century? Ever? Yeah, to assume Love would fall right in that category, like HOF QBs just grow on trees in Green Bay, was the stupidest thing ever. How many dumb ass Packer fans thought that? Hey, the media tried to sell the hell out of it too; I’m sure the NFL will continue to try to push that down our throats, but I think we know better. Is this finally, finally, finally, the turning of the tide in the NFL’s oldest rivalry? Do the Bears actually have a better QB than the Packers for the first time in forever? Thinking about this makes me smile about as wide as my chubby cheeks allow… haha. Beating them 1x doesn’t mean all that. Just because Jordan Love looks like dog shit doesn’t mean Caleb will be better. However… it gives us a little hope, and right about now, we’ll take it… what else can we do?

Meanwhile, the Bears have plenty of work to do. They’re interviewing everybody and their mama for the head coaching job; is that really necessary? Hopefully some of these interviews, like the one with our interim coach, lasted about 5 minutes. Are they just interviewing 100 candidates to act like they’re doing their due diligence, or do they really have zero clue about wtf they’re doing? I’m scared. Yes, we already have Caleb, but if we don’t get this right… the tables are turning nowhere. Every other coach in our division is solid. To be outcoached every year is putting ourselves behind the 8 ball; we’re nowhere near that good. We need a coach who will elevate things around here; somebody with a really high football IQ. Have I said who I want yet? I don’t think so. I wouldn’t have minded Mike Vrabel, but he’s off to New England already. Now who?
