I’m starting to see more Sox gear… As this off-season progresses, and the Sox improve their team, ‘fans’ are dusting off their Sox stuff. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve seen so many people wearing Sox gear. Grant it, it’s still a pretty low number, just a few more than normal.
Yeah, go ahead. I think it’s safe to crown the Sox the offseason champs. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised Reinsdorf made a banner celebrating this and raised it at the opener, while all the ‘fans’ flock back to the stadium, cheering this worthless accomplishment. Ok, that’s a little steep. It’s definitely not worthless. You must build a good team in the offseason to have a good chance when it counts. Credit due to the Sox for that, no doubt about it. But they haven’t won one game yet this season; surely they’ll win one game. But at this point, it feels like the parade is being planned.
I get it. I get being overly excited for your team trust me. Yet, I had to chuckle when I read some comments from a recent Encarnacion interview; great pickup by the way. But I read him talking about postseason at bats, and how his experience will help; you just treat the ABs the same way. I’m like whoa…how about getting there first? As we all know, there are no sure things; just ask the 2019 Bears. The paper doesn’t always equal the results. They say that’s why you play the games. It sure feels like the cart before the horse; counting chickens kind of. But don’t worry Sox ‘fans’; Steve Stone already saw what is going to happen. I think the Sox are going to have a very good year; they should be better than they have been in a long time. I’m happy for Chicago. We’ll finally have our other baseball team back.
Another thing I chuckle about is the whole Sox attendance thing. Of course, that’s one of the longest running jokes, kind of like Wrigley Field smelling like piss. When I read Sox ‘fans’ responses, it goes like this: we will come out to the games when they’re good. Isn’t that the exact definition of a bandwagon fan? Only really supporting your team when they’re good. Funny. And yes, I know, there are plenty of true Sox fans, and I know there are more bandwagon fans that are fans of the Cubs than any other team, but when you say something like that, you’re setting yourself up. When I talk to you and I know more about ‘your’ team than you do, I know. It’s ok though. Cheer them on and profess your hate for the Cubs. It’s all good. Never even stepping foot in Wrigley, the cathedral…
Sox fans feeling strong with this offseason; good, you needed it. Cubs not doing a damn thing this offseason; thing is, they are already really good. We all wish our teams would make every effort to win every single year; that’s not too much to ask, is it? As Sox fans get ready for the opening of their window, real Cubs fans know that our window is not closed; the golden era is still here. Sure, do we wish the golden era meant another World Series title, yes. Are we relieved to finally get one? Yes. 2005 will never be forgotten in Sox fans’ hearts either. Let the games begin I say. The race for 4 between the Cubs and the Sox continues; good luck!
